Ok so I already have the Kaplan's SAT 2400, Barron's PSAT book, McGrawhill's 3 Minutes a Day, and the Official SAT book. I took the SAT at the end of freshman year and I got a 2260 (780 math 780 writing 8 essay 700 reading). Now, this was mainly due to luck and intuition I think, because there was no way I could have scored a 780 on writing based on intelligence alone. So..I'm heading into Junior Year and hoping to get a 230+ on the PSAT and 2300+ on the SAT. Any suggestions as to what other books I should get? I need help especially on reading and the Essay.

are you serious? you want to retake a 2260?

Yes..because I want to get into HYPSMC. I know it doesn't really matter..but I still want to retake it just to get above 2300..and plus- I'm more worried about the PSAT because I would like to qualify for the National Merit Finalist thing, so you got any books for PSAT? Not SAT. Same thing. Whatever.

lol. stanford.
so how did u prep for the SAT? just by using those books? i heard barrons 2400 was decent. :[ i also need help in reading.

Well I don't know lol, just luck, intuition, and logic. Took it in June of Freshman year..was the last time I took it..got a 2260 somehow..I just did a bunch of practice tests by using Kaplan's SAT 2400 and the Official SAT book. I corrected them too. Got about 2000s and 2100s on them..don't know how I got a 2260. Soo..enough of this..I need help from high-scoring PSAT people..

haha thanks...i havent taken the test yet..btw. i just gathering information for my prep.

Direct Hits is a good book for vocab--it is split into sections that make the words easy to group together and the definitions range from historical stories to funny pop culture references. For the essay, I've used personal stories (one from a hiking trip and one from a state championship swimming race) and scored 11 and 12 on those two

Ok..um I'm planning to self-study the PSAT/SAT over the summer now..Elite is a waste of time. So, I would like to hear from the students who got 2300+/230+ or were National Merit SemiFinalists: Which books should I get? I really want to get high scores for the PSAT/SAT this upcoming Junior Year..2300+ preferably.
From what I've read, these are a must:
1. The Official SAT Book: Amazon.com: The Official SAT Study Guide: The College Board: Books
2. Grammatix: Amazon.com: Grammatix: Books
I already have these:
1. Amazon.com: Kaplan SAT 2400, 2008 Edition: Advanced Prep for Advanced Students (Kaplan New Sat 2400): Kaplan: Books
2. Amazon.com: Barron's PSAT/NMSQT 2006-2007 (Barron's How to Prepare for the Psat Nmsqt Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test): Sharon Weiner Green, Ira K. Wolf Ph.D.: Books
Soo...any ideas on what else I should get? Or are my choices ok? I need the 2300+ lol. Thanks to all of you, you guys are so smart!! :)

bump...........

You should definitely have the Blue Book.
I think Kaplan 2400 and Barrons 2400 are good because they have strategies for the typical CC user.

Get the ten real SATs for practice.

A test-prep course is useless if you have really high scores. Kaplan brought my scores up to the 2100 range so it really helped me. I guess its worth $900 now that it actually motivated me to do a lot more than just SAT.

I remember there was a cult following on the RocketReview on this forum, but I haven't been here for a while.

^ Are they blue book and 10 real SATs the same thing? Or are they different books.. Btw, I'm looking to get 2300+ not 2100+, so you're saying I should get Barron's 2400?
