Which Branch of Law?

How did you decide which branch of law most interested you?

There are so many disciplines of law? Did you decide what kind you wanted to study before law school or during law school?

You, more than likely, will not know what area of law you want to practice before heading to law school or even leaving law school. My father, as an example, hated Bankruptcy law in law school but at the first firm he worked at, because of an untimely departure of the existing bankruptcy attorney, he quickly became the firm's bankruptcy guy. Yadda, yadda, yadda, he's been practicing Bankruptcy for the past 20+ years.

During law school, you will have the chance to participate in summer clerkships. In the law firm I've been working at, these clerkships translate into you, as a young attorney, having the opportunity to spend 2-3 weeks assisting in a certain area of law until you are pawned off to another area of the office and being working in another area of law.

for most people they can't know very well what type of law is best for them since it is not only the idea of it but how the actual field or jobs are in the real world. that said, what are you supposed to say to your recommenders when they ask you what type of law and why?
