Which BS/DO program do I choose? PLEASE HELP

Which BS/DO program do I choose?
HI all, i am a senior who applied to BS/MD and BS/DO programs. I got rejected to all BS/MD programs, some I had an interview, but did not get accepted because there's like 5-10 seats. I got accepted to following BS/DO programs and need help deciding...

I applied to 7 year BS/DO programs in order to avoid the medical school admission process. These programs reserve a seat in the medical school for high school students as long as the maintain a certain college undergrad. GPA and get a specific minimum MCAT score. (If you knew about the program, sorry for all that, but some people don't know about these programs since I think they are relatively new.)

1) These are the programs I have been accepted to and which do you think I should go to and why?

**The main question is what should I consider in choosing one of these programs- tuition, location or difficulty like MCAT score-is what I am worried about, or reputation of DO school

Gannon University in Erie, PA agreement with PCOM in Philadelphia, PA
Requirements: 21 MCAT score overall, 7 in subsections and 3.2 overall GPA-
must get grades of A-C

Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL agreement with NSU-COM in same place
Requirements: 24 MCAT score overall, 8 in subsections and 3.3 overall GPA-
must get grades of A-C+

Utica College in New York with agreement with LECOM in Erie, PA or UNECOM in Maine
Requirements: 20 MCAT score overall, 3.0-3.2 overall GPA

NYIT in agreement with NYCOM
Requirements: 26 MCAT score overall, 3.3-3.5 overall GPA

THE NYIT Program I'm probably not going to because I have heard bad things about it including difficult coursework, bad professors, and hard requirements, I hear they take 70 applicants, but many drop out or get asked to change programs.

The Utica one I don't like because the schools arent that good, but I AM TRYING TO PICK BETWEEN GANNON AND NOVA....

Most of the costs of the school end up being the same if I calculate scholarships, so please talk about other stuff to make me A CONFUSED SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL- DECIDE LOL!!!

Thanks so much,
FutureDr08

It doesn't seem worth it. With a 3.4, 25, you'd be competitive for a DO school in the regular admissions process anyway. Do you really want to attend Utica College or Gannon University?

i would visit the schools - not the medical school- but the undergrads again, see if you will be happy to attend there. I know academics are important, but you gotta also be able to withstand it socially.
If i were you, i choose PCOM one. I heard really good things about PCOM and if i recall, your residency options over there will be pretty good, especially for surgery.

Being a bs/do program student myself, i think you should give some thought in the traditional route.

if you're going to be taking the mcats anyway and you can get into these programs, you can probably do decent enough on the MCATS to get into a DO school regularly

Did you apply to any normal schools? Which ones?

I dont know if my comments will help but here are my two cents:

I have two cousins who have applied to the BS/DO program at Nova Southeastern University. One of them just got accepted and agreed to go. He is in love with the campus and is impressed with the requirements to stay in the program.

My other cousin is a senior at Nova. He was a loose high school student and had poor sat scores. After 3 years at Nova, he sat for the MCAT and received a 32.

I would suggest Nova not only because of the beauty of Fort Lauderdale, but because of the extremely beneficial pre-medical program. The program enabled my cousin to score high on the MCAT and now is able to apply out, preferrably to an MD school. I am not familiar with any of the other BS/DO programs but from my family's experience with Nova Southeastern University, I strongly recommend this one.

How poor are the SAT scores in question? It is unlikely that a school "enabled" a high MCAT score -- the MCAT (like most tests) is mostly a test of innate standardized testing ability.

Googler:

Hi, can I talk to your cousins via email, can you give their email to me, since their perspective will help and I'm sure they can give me input and advice being in the program. Thanks

Please PM me or ask for my email since I want to talk to someone in the program before I finalize the college for me.

I'm not very familiar with DO programs, but my recommendation would be to go to any undergrad school that you would feel good being at.

After that, spend the next four years, working hard. This may help you score well on the MCAT's and then apply out to a MD school, or a DO school.

Taking the easy way out by accepting one of these spots is definitely not in the best interest of your education. More importantly, it is not in the best interest of your future patients.

yeah the better undergrad school is clearly Nova compared to Gannon in my opinion at least because Nova has good programs, great location, seems like a place I would like to learn and have fun, but I have never visited Gannon/"dreary Erie" so I do know know that place...

that's true I'm actually taking the more challenging route with Nova since it's a bit harder

thanks for the input, really appreciate it, most likely going to Nova's 7 year BS/DO program because I'm going to try and turn my MAIN WORRY into a MOTIVATION FACTOR- The MCAT 24 is what I'm nervous about but I am choosing the program with the higher MCAT score in order to encourage myself to do better on the MCAT/study more and hopefully score high enough to get into a medical school in IL-where I am from....wut do you all think?

I think THAT IS a GREAT idea. Go FOR it!

Sorry about the caps. I just couldn't HELP myself :D.

Seriously, though, you seem very motivated and determined, and as a result, I am sure you will be successful and happy no matter where you go.

go for it...

thanks both of you:) lol I guess I'm the typical apprehensive, neurotic premed student...but in the end everything will turn out great, hopefully haha

wait. does anyone know if there is any restrictions in regard to getting out of the Nova program once you are in it. I was wondering, since if i go there and do well on the MCAT, i might opt. out for a MD!!!

to FutureDr08, definitely dont go to the NYIT BS/DO program..im in that one right now and i am not happy at all!, the professors are not so good, and a lot of it is self-teaching
