Which Cal State for a gaming career?

So I'm choosing between the two cal poly states and cal state Fullerton to go to and get a computer science degree (since neither has a game major). But I was wondering which school had the better course/environment(?) for someone who wants to be a game maker.

It seems like cal poly has the better courses but Fullerton has a much better game club that seems to be detailed and hands on.

Please give me your opinions and feel free to give other options to.
Thank you

You should apply to more than just the one college you choose, because colleges have to choose you as well. It’s best to decide “which of these three” AFTER you’ve been accepted to all three. Collect information for your final decision now, but apply to several schools unless you have guaranteed admission and guaranteed financing.

you asked for it! I don’t know which of those schools would be better, but I know a couple people who have been involved with gaming and it isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be. And it seems to also be like pro sports - everyone wants it, but not everyone gets to have what they want.

My advice/opinion is, be flexible with your career desires, and be educationally prepared for related options as well.

Good luck!

If you can afford it/have the stats you might also want to look into USC, they have a great game program.

Good question to ask. I would go to the best CS school you can get into. Your skills and education are going to be important. But to get into the gaming industry, you will need experience and connections. That is where active clubs can help. But you can do projects on your own or form your own club or team to do side work to your classes. Trying to get an internship should be a priority, so look at SJSU where you might have local companies, like Electronic Arts, at hand.

Here’s a great article to give you some perspective.
