Which Cal state universities for engineering?

I'm planning to do Computer Engineering. Which Cal state universities are good for Computer engineering? I decided to apply to Calpoly SLO but i need to apply to at least 2 other ones (as safety colleges/backups) :P Suggestions please?

I would pick SJSU and Chico. Or Cal Poly Pomona.

San Jose, because it is in Silicon Valley. But it is a relatively competitive one, so it may not necessarily be suitable as a safety, so you may have to add other less competitive ones.

You can see San Jose’s recent past admission thresholds here:

Picking a safety depends on your stats. What are your test scores and GPA?

@NCalRent Thats right…
Well I study abroad, and we dont have a GPA system here. But during 9th and 10th grade I maintained A’s , rarely any B’s. While in 11th and 12th, its mostly B’s and a few C’s.
In SAT 1, my total score is 2020.
Subject SATs weren’t too great, so I’m planning to retake them in December.

@brownparent and @ucbalumunus thank you so much for your suggestions, I will definitely keep them in mind when I finalize my decision. :)

In that case, I’m with Brownparent - SJSU, Pomona and Chico would be safe bets.

@ncalrent okay great thanks :slight_smile:
also, based on these test scores and grades, do you reckon I’ve got a chance at UCSD?

Your SAT is just a little above average there. The avg GPA is well above 4.0. I understand international students are held to an even higher standard so, I would say, doubtful.

@ncalrent what about UC davis?

Davis is a little more selective than SLO and similarly selective to UCSD. I honestly think all 3 are reaches for you. There are lots of consideration for international aplicants so, I encourage you to appy to all of them. Just have a safety or two as back ups.
