My son will be taking Math 1320 this semester. What calculator is required/preferred for this class?

A lot of math classes at UVA don’t allow calculators or make you show your work anyways, but I’m not sure about what Math 132 allows or does not allow.

No calculator for 1320. Just make sure your son brings his brain and a strong work ethic =).

Great! That saves us money and his sisters can use the TI-84 that he will leave behind:).

I personally would get him a TI 89 so that he will learn to use it. It beats hitting the hard maths and trying to learn the CAS as well as the material.

IMO if the prof will not allow calculators he is a pretty poor prof and should be dropped anyway.

Why would you feel this is a reflection on any one professor? It appears to be a department philosophy. None of the Calc classes in the e’school allow calculators either. They must feel it is the best way to learn the material.
