Which Calculators are allowed?

I just lost my graphing calc and I need to get a new one. Does Cornell allow graphing calculators? Also, if they don't is it worth it to buy one?

Why wouldn't Cornell allow graphing calculators? I'm sure they do.

Someone said on another post that they don't in the intro calc classes and I want to see if this is true.

i would buy one even if they don't allow it in class, it could be a lot of help in doing homework.

For calc I (Math 111), the calculators are allowed even though none of the questions reuire the use of calculators. You are better off without a calculator because if you have a calculator then you will waste most of the time screwing with the calculator.
However, for calc II (Math 112), the use of any calculator is not allowed.

Math 213 (Calc III)-no calc

Math 221 (Linear Algebra)- no calc

Physics 101/102-calc is furnished (you can't use your own)

Obviously, you would still need one so you can do homework problems...

Calculators usually are not allowed in calc exams. And this isn't just Cornell, it's basically everywhere.

but buy a TI-89 Ti (its the bomb)

Yea thats fine, I think I will just get one anyway. We never use calculators in my AP class either.

what;; i don't think i can do math w/o my lovely (lol;;;) TI-89...

I hate all you Ti-89'ers... I've had my 83+ forever, and I'll pwn you with it...lol

Nah, the 89Ti is really good, but I've gotten used to the 83, though it doesn't do as much...

89 Titanium = God.

How much is the TI-89?

I've been using my TI-83+(s) for many years and I dont know if the upgrade is worth it. Any advice?

I was totally skeptical of the 89 until I was in Calc BC this year and had to get one. I figured "I know how to use the 83 just fine, why spend the money?" But it is sooo worth it. The thing factors, derives, integrates, finds limits.. You name it, it can probably do it. It's saved me so much time in checking and completing homework. I can't say enough good things about the TI-89 Titanium! It will be with me for life <3.

i got my regular ti-89 for the same price as a ti-83 would cost...99 bucks, the 89titanium is like 120 over here

They better allow good calculators.

why are you still here?

89 Titanium was named by some kid in my school.
My regular 89 is a godsend and has singlehandedly saved my grades from plummeting this marking period (gotta love the TEXT program)

man, i used a $5 calculator throughout high school, top 2 math contest certificates, 1 math medal and highest grades in math class!
but anyway, wat's the difference btwn ti89 and ti89 titanium?

I wouldn't rely too much on your calculators. My school just recently started emphasizing non-calculator calculus because kids came back from top schools (Brown, Cornell, etc.) complaining that the colleges did not allow them, and that their grades were suffering.
