There seems to have been a lot of changes on the NB Campus’s… if you like activity and sports, which Campus would be the best to stay at?
Let me give you a breakdown of the campuses
Busch: Suburban, Home of Engineering, Computer Science, Pharmacy, and Medicine departments. Where many of the STEM students live. Has the best gym on campus, and is where the football players practice and play.
Livingston: Suburban, Home of the Business School and many freshmen year STEM courses. Generally where most freshmen live. Has the best dining hall, and is where the basketball team plays games.
Colleg Avenue: Urban, has the most active feel. Where a lot of upperclassmen live, and where fraternity houses are located. Has great restaurants, but the worst dining hall on campus.
Cook/Douglass: Suburban, home of SEBS and the Mason Gross School of Arts. Also home to the Douglass Residential College (all-female). Relatively far from the rest of Rutgers (Rt. 1 literally cuts through it). Has the fewest shuttles going to/from it.
Thanks mohchan360! Food is important to me also (Dining halls not ‘pay’ restaurants ). I was leaning toward College Ave… but you say the dining hall isn’t very good? How bad? I also will be a BioMath Major at SAS so based on that which campus is closest to all the ‘major’ classes?
SAS classes tend to be scattered across all four campuses, although looking at a Biomathematics major’s first year courses (Calc, Chem, Intro to Experimentation) I’d say a decent amount of them would be on Livingston. Your humanities electives could be anywhere though.
The Biomathematics program falls under the mathematics department, which is based in the Hill Center on Busch.
Also, regarding Brower Dining Hall, the quality of food isn’t as good as other dining halls, and there isn’t as much variety. Brower is known for having decent Pizza, but that’s pretty much it. However, dining hall meal swipes do work at some pay restaurants, you just have to do some research on google to find them.
In terms of ranking dining halls, the generally agreed upon list is:
- Livingston
- Busch
- Neilson (Cook/Douglas)
- Brower (College Avenue)
Thank that helps a lot!
No problem, also one thing I forgot to add was the cost of the meal plan. The minimum you have to buy as a freshman if you’re buying a meal plan is 210 meal swipes, which costs $2425. This means that each dining hall meal costs about $11.54 which, if you think about it, is more expensive than your average meal at Chipotle or Panera (food chains like this are on all campuses). In addition, if you buy a single meal at the dining hall it only costs $10. So, economically speaking, it actually would be cheaper not to buy a meal plan.
I agree… but if you are living on you have to get at least the 210 plan according to the Rutgers web site…‘The university housing agreement specifies that First Year students in residence halls must have a minimum 210 plan.’.
I don’t spend 11:54 now on meals, in general BUT looks like I have no choice?
