Which Cell Phones?

Which cell phones are the most popular on campus? Do most kids have a Motorola?

Depends on which college you go to.

I can't say about college, but at my high school almost everyone had Samsungs.

as in the physical phone or the plan?

do some research (for the plan) on which is most popular at your school... that way (in theory) you won't be wasting your minutes calling your friends up there because most plans have free mobile-to-mobile within their plan.

some schools are in more remote parts of the country or are in valleys/mountainous regions, so you need to figure out which plans have the best coverage for the area.

and as for the phone, go to the store that you'll be buying it from and ask to use the phone(s) you're interested in to test them out. call home and talk to someone, play around with it.

thanks. I've researched the plans so it's down to which actual model of cell phone. Which make would you go for - Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson? Just wondering which phones people feel are best for college.

Whatever you like using. Nokia, Samsung, and LG seems to be quite popular.

tmobile sidekick ii ....greatest phone eve

I think nokia generally makes lower end cell phones, but I'm not sure. Someone told me to get a sanyo, because they have good reception... but my sanyo isn't outstanding.

Okay so do you prefer flip type or candy bar type phones? I was told that flip phones are not very durable and that they have a weak point at the hinge that apparently breaks quite easily but I'm a bit skeptical. What type phone do you have?

I've had a flip phone for the last year and never had any problems with it and it still seems sturdy. My parents had some samsung flip phones for four years without anything breaking on them. A friend of mine's parents had the samephones, and the speaker stopped working, but the hinge was fine.

I really like Samsungs because they're pretty, but right now I have an Ericsson and it's very functional.

I actually like flip phones because you don't have to worry about accidentally making calls when you forget to lock the keypad or scratching the screen, etc. I've never had a problem with them breaking.

Nokia definately doesnt make the low end phones. They do make a few low end lines which is a good thing because they are practically all that is left for people who just want a fricking phone that works and none of the other crap. Nokia has some of the best hardware and interface design of any of the manufacturers. It's a shame that they only just started making some clamshell models because young people tend to prefer them.

The real low-end manufactures are the ones like samsung and sanyo and the old LG's

the only good thing about a "candy-bar" phone is that when ur upset (bad talk with parents, SO, etc), you can throw that thing as hard as you want against things. I have a nokia old non-flip phone, and it is hellishly durable. I've been wanting a new phone, but that thing won't die on me. I've tried throwing it against walls, playing catch with it, using it as a boomerang (one that doesn't come back), and as a hackeysack. seems hopeless to try something else. btw, my phone is pretty technologically backward (no cameras to break or outside displays to crack)

wow eclipse - your phone must be pretty strong headed :D

So no votes for the Motorola phones? :( Are they that bad?

I just don't know anything about Motorola phones. We have Sprint, which doesn't carry motorola phones.

I love flip phones. I will say that the hinges do seem a little weak. I can jiggle my phone at the hinges which is kind of scary, but we've had the phone for a while now, so its alright.

I always thought the new motorola models were most popular. You see them on TV, music videos, movies...

I really like how the Motorola Razr looks. But it's only available with Cingular which may not have the best reception where your college is.

I've had really good luck with Sony. My picture phone has lasted for over a year now with no problems whatsoever ... I've dropped it, kicked it, etc.

If you want everyone to look at you when you use your cell phone, get the Motorola V3 Razr. Everytime I took it out, someone would comment on it.

Motorola V710 from verizon is the sickest phone.
