Which chemistry class should I take?

I am currently a student at Indiana University Bloomington and I want to transfer to a school with an engineering program. I will need to take a number of per-requisites next semester before I can transfer. I am not sure what chemistry class I should take. I think I should take Elementary Chemistry 1 along with the lab (CHEM C-101 + CHEM C-121). According to u.select this course should count toward the Chemistry 1 requirement for U of Illinois. However, I have not been able to figure this out for other schools. I am worried that maybe I should be in Introduction to Chemical Principals (CHEM C-103) which is the more advanced class for chemistry majors. U.select says that either C-101 + C-121 or C-103 will fulfill the requirement for Illinois but I am not sure how this will work for other schools. So basically do you think I should change my schedule from C-101 + C-121 to C-103?

Here are the chemistry courses offed at my school.

Looks like C117 (or S117) is the chemistry majors’ course, while C103 is preparatory for C117 for those who do not pass the placement exam for C117 (C101 is also accepted as preparatory for C117).

Check the other schools’ web sites to see if they have transfer articulation from IU, if they do not appear on u.select. Which other schools? Purdue?

I don’t know which schools your interested in, but Purdue has a page where you can look up transfer equivalencies from other schools. It looks like they consider C117 to be equivalent to the chemistry their freshmen engineering students take. https://selfservice.mypurdue.purdue.edu/prod/bzwtxcrd.p_select_info

Also, I took C103 two years ago, and I didn’t find it to be too challenging despite my lack of a strong science background at the time. Mostly it felt like a bigger time commitment than my other classes as far as time spent in class and time spent memorizing things outside of class, for what it may be worth to you.
