I’m interested in studying English (with a focus on Creative Writing) and Economics. I have a weighted GPA of 5.4 and an ACT score of 35 and I will need generous financial aid. I’m trying to decide which Claremont college(s) to apply to: I’m thinking Pitzer or Pomona or Scripps but I want some other perspectives on the differences between those schools and what might be best for me.
Each school has a different “vibe”. Pitzer is very environmental and socially aware. Scripps is a woman’s college so there is a focus on feminism. It’s a beautiful lush green campus vs Pitzer’s desert landscape (conserves water). Pomona has the east coast ivy league feel. It also is the largest of the Claremonts. All of them meet 100% need but Pomona does not have merit aid (the others do).
You might want to learn a little about each schools core requirements and see what speaks to you. Do you live close enough to visit? I’d recommend trying to visit if you can. Are you a junior? Do you still have plenty of time to research this?
Thanks for your response @ClaremontMom! I’m a senior so the clock is ticking but your feedback helps.
Oh my! Yes, the clock is ticking. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. I have a D at Scripps and a S at Mudd so if I can’t answer something I might be able to get an answer from my kids.
Agree with @ClaremontMom about how different their vibes are despite being right next to each other. Maybe this goes without saying, but if financial aid is a significant factor, make sure that you also run the Net Price Calculator for each. One of my kids went to Pomona, but spent significant time on a couple of the other campuses, so also feel free to shoot any questions you’d like me to pass along.
