Which class should I take?

I'm trying to decide between two classes: IB Environmental Science, and Physics. I will be a senior, and this will be the first year my school offers any IB/AP science classes whatsoever.

I'd normally go for the IB, but the problem is that I'd like to major in engineering, of the biological or chemical variety. The physics class at our school is sort of a joke, as well- the teacher is only there so he can be the football coach. People sometimes skip class several times a week and still get A's, and the teacher is also known to sometimes hand out assignments in spanish he got off the internet, despite the fact that not everyone even takes spanish at our school (I happen to be in latin).

I am also committed to taking Chem 2, so this will be my second science this semester, if that helps any.

What do you guys think?

The way you describe it, you seem to know already that Physics would be a waste of your time. A good Physics class might fit well with your college goals, but I assume that’s not an option for you.

If I were in your position, I’d take the class that might not be a total waste.

You will need to have completed Physics to be admitted to most engineering programs. Thus, if the teacher really is that bad, you will either hope he leaves before your senior year or you can look into taking it at a local community college.

For some reason, it seems that Physics teachers are typically the worst-liked faculty member at their school. However, I thought football coaches always ended up teaching Phys Ed - did he misunderstand that the “Phys” part is NOT short for Physics?

Could you take neither of those classes, and take physics at a nearby two- or four-year college?

It seems I will be taking physics, as it is required of me in order to apply to the engineering schools I’m interested in. sigh I wish I could take it at college level- our state school is literally a block away from my high school- but my family wouldn’t be able to afford to pay for the class. Could anyone who has taken physics give me their opinion on possibly taking it online?
