I’m currently in high school and about to go into senior year. I am going to major in finance (preferably at NYU) but I still need to get my art credit for the year. I was wondering if it is worth it taking Business Statistics (not honors or ap) and take afterschool art classes twice a week for a semester (which fills my art credit), or if I should just take an art class for the whole year. I am also taking AP Statistics senior year if thats worth mentioning.
Do admission officers care if the classes i take relate to which major i choose or just the gpa?
They care about course rigor and will recalculate GPA to reflect your choices, so that if you’re taking AP stats Business stats would be considered a repeat. Take art for the whole year.
I’m not sure there’s a whole lot to be gained by taking both high school Business Statistics and AP Statistics. What’s the difference in the curriculum?
business statistics is more oriented towards investments and stuff. ap stats is just understanding the general mothods of statistics and gathering data i think.
You need to make sure that “afterschool art classes twice a week for a semester” will indeed fulfill your arts credit both with respect to your high school’s graduation requirements and what colleges may or may not consider an sufficient for their entrance requirements.
In my daughter’s case, she took a 4 credit college art history class, which I had to clear with both her high school and her state flagship university to ensure that it would meet their admissions requirements. Had it not fulfilled her state flagship’s requirements, her high school would not have allowed her to use it to fulfill their graduation requirements (and, if fact, the whole thing didn’t go down without a struggle).
