Okay, I'm going to be a junior at a pretty rigorous Catholic high school in south Chicago suburbs. I'm not really looking for anywhere spectacular for college, I'm thinking Loyola Chicago, or if I'm really lucky - Notre Dame. I have a ton of community service and extra-curricular activities, I was a state champion for Illinois State Speech. Anyways. I'm considering taking French I my junior year, but in order to do that, I would need to either drop Latin or Psychology AP.

Heres my junior year schedule: Theology 3, English 3 AP, Algebra 2, Latin III Honors, Chemistry, US History AP, Psychology AP.

Would it be worth it to drop Latin or Psych in order to take French?
I'm planning on majoring in International Relations in College, if that helps at all.

psych sounds interesting, but if not, drop it. latin and french are probably going to serve you in the future much more than psych would, unless theres an amazing teacher or something out of the ordinary.

Keep Latin, not Psych for the same reasons as ^^
But, if your not really good at learning different languages, two language classes might be a bit hectic, but if your up for it - go for it! =]

I'd say drop Latin, and keep French and Psych. Most CCers will tell you to take Latin, but don't listen to them. Latin isn't cool. French is much better, and Psych is better too.

I'd say keep your schedule as it is if you want to stay super-competitive for colleges. Since you are already in Latin III, it would be a waste to drop it now for French. Also, Psych seems like a fun and interesting class (plus it's AP and French I is not).

drop theology. just kidding. i would say drop latin...because you will be dealing with MODERN languages in your career field. I know Latin could help that, but if you keep AP Psych, you could boost your GPA and possibly get credit for it in college. Then you can take classes you actually care about.

Psych will serve anyone much more than French would. A psychology background is good for any career, since just about all have to deal with people (psychology is NOT just abnormal psych disorders).

Are you really interested in French? Or are you just doing this to add on another language? If that's the case, it will look better to have a longer continuation of Latin.

(This is coming from someone who took 5 years of French in high school, and I'm going to take it again in college. I personally think French > Spanish, but that's just my opinion).

I really just want to take French because I want to learn a conversational language, and I want to be able to test out of a language in college.

If you haven't taken any French so far, you probably won't completely test out of a language in college. You may be able to test out of the introductory courses, but with only two years, I doubt that you can completely test out of the language. Usually that requires four or five years of language courses. But it's definitely best to learn a conversational language, in my opinion. I just really don't see any value in Latin that one can't achieve by learning a more useful language.
