Which classes qualify as Natural Science?

My daughter wants me to ask a question. For her major Journalism it says required 8 hours of natural science with a lab? How can you tell which of the science classes qualify for this requirement?

My son had another question about natural science. In the computer science major, it states “Approved natural science (N) electives must be chosen from “majors” courses.”

How do we know if something is in the “majors” courses? I can’t tell by the chart you linked to.

He is asking because he took AP Physics B, and would get credit for Physics 101 and 102. But it is unclear if it meets the “majors” criteria.

Thanks !

The “majors courses” are the ones that science majors and pre-med students have to take. They’re the harder versions.

In DSs DegreeWorks for Comp Science -

…**Computer Science majors are required to earn a total of 12 credits in Natural Science courses. Of those 12, 8 must be in sequence. Please see the Basic Courses in Computer Engineering below for a list of acceptable Natural Science sequences. **…

then the list of acceptable NS sequences -
Astronomy Sequence
( 8 Credits in AY 101 and 102
and 203* and 204* ) or

Biology Sequence
( 8 Credits in BSC 114 and 115* and 116* and 117* ) or

Chemistry I and II Sequence
( 8 Credits in CH 101* and 102* ) or

Introductory Chemistry Sequence
( 8 Credits in CH 104 and 105* ) or

Honors Chemistry I and II Sequence
( 8 Credits in CH 117* and 118* ) or

Geology Sequence
( 8 Credits in GEO 101 and 102* ) or

Geology Sequence
( 8 Credits in GEO 101 and 105 ) or

Geography Sequence
( 2 Classes in GY 101 and 102 ) or

Physics Sequence
( 8 Credits in PH 101* and 102* ) or

Physics with Calculus Sequence
( 8 Credits in PH 105* and 106* ) or

Honors Physics Sequence
*

So there are only 4 credits of Nat. Science electives which have to come from Major Courses, the first 8 come from the above approved sequences.

Thank you so much! That answers his question completely. He was unsure if physics 101/102 would count or not. It is not clear in the online things that we could find!

I know, DS just figured it out recently :)
