which cogs class should I take for Fall Qtr?

I need to take another upper division cogs class (i planning to take cogs 101a (sensation and perception)), so what do you guys recommend me choosing out of these two:

Cogs 102A (Distributed Cognition) w/ Edwin Hutchins

or

Cogs 107A (Neuroanatomy and Physiology) w/ Jaime Pineda

Thank you for any replies!

I personally like COGS 107A more since I love neuroscience/biology more than I liked philosophy and dry abstract thought.

It depends on what you want. Do you like memorizing cool facts about the brain or do you like writing papers?

Yes I am biased.

I took both at the same time and am just going to take 101 series next fall. I’ve heard 101a and 101b overlap with 107a and 107b a bit.

I thought 107A was on the hardest class out of all of them, 107B and 107C are WAY easier than 107A. There is a lot of memorization you have to do. Pineda’s weekly quizzes are a huge pain in the ass and the book is dull as ****. The other two classes in the series you dont have to read the book at all since its lecture based. Nitz and Jernigan are awesome.

I would take 102A, its a little dull but 102B is really eye opening. you might get sick of two courses in neuroscience and psychology in the same year. Plus Hutchins is great.

btw 102A is a some philosophy but it really opens your eyes to social cognition. especially later on in 102B which helps you a lot if you are into HCI

If you took COGS17 with Johnson, 107A should be pretty easy. Like Arctic said, it’s all memorization (you’re really just going through anatomy and localized functions and learning the major neural pathways).

thanks for all the helpful responses guys! and in any future responses!

@Oyama: i have already taken BILD 2 (basic mam phys), do you think that would make 107a easy as well?
