Actually Zip Cars are in many college towns and are used by college students a LOT. One of the advantages of Zipcars is they DO rent to college students.

Also some college campuses have “relationships” with rental car companies. Boston University had a relationship with Enterprise and would rent to BU undergrads without the excessive fees for drivers under 25.

I think something like a convertible Mustang, perhaps a Shelby, would be pretty nice. The Corvette and the new Camaro are nice as well.

What? The student should buy their own car. They should get a part time job, save their money, and then buy what they can afford. This assumes they want or need a car.

Yup - nysmile has the right idea. I read some of the other posts by the OP and it looks like the OP’s a ■■■■■ or at a minimum - someone who’s not very prudent.

We got one of our D’s a scooter. It gets more than 70 mpg and since she lives near campus, she’s still on her first gallon of gas! She wanted it so that she could park anywhere. No registration, no possible tickets. No insurance necessary but we got some anyway. The student lot is further away than her apartment so a car wouldn’t get her closer to school.

It sounds a bit like a lawn mower. You might hear a Harley a block away and feel a bit ashamed…

Don’t laugh - a friend came from an Asian country that is quite densely populated to UCLA and his dad wired money for a car. Dad wired enough for a new Accord in their country (including various fees for registration, parking, etc etc) that ended up being more than the car itself without checking what cars cost in the US… . My friend bought a gently used Acura NSX :-)…

wis75, I drove a Ford Maverick a few years too. It was a hand-me-down from my mom, an awful red and white thing with a Marriage Encounter sticker in the back window! No one would want to steal that. It got me to my co-op job and the grocery store.

My D’s club team uses zip cars to get to their tournaments.

For anyone using Zipcar - check into the insurance coverage first. Zipcar insures cars for the state minimum allowed (often quite low). Your private insurance may or may not cover your student while driving a Zipcar in another state. Just find out the details as they apply to your student.
