I am looking for advice and am planning to apply as a Film Major. I assumed that the only option was the Transmedia Dept. in the School of Visual ARts but as I am doing my research I see that there is a Film,TV, Radio option in Newhouse as well. Anyone have any insight on which is better for someone who wants a balanced program with an emphasis on cinema studies vs. production? Can you take classes and/or double major in both departments? I hear Newhouse is the most difficult college to get into? Is that true? Any help would be great. Thanks.

anyone? would love some info on this.

School of Visual and Performing Arts, department of transmedia

Thanks....but why? I have to say that when I toured the film dept. I was not impressed with the facilities at all...and it truly concerned me.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard much of the same. At this point i’m leaning towards Chapman (film studies), but am visiting Cuse on 4/13 and really want to be impressed

The Newhouse program is probably your better bet if you want to embark on documentary filmmaking. Good faculty in that area.

I can’t comment on the film facilities you mentioned but if you’re talking about VPA… that school does need a lot of help with its non art/design facilities, particularly the music facilities.

How about for film/cinema studies with perhaps a minor in magazine journalism?

is there a cinema studies/film studies degree at syracuse? like in the college of arts and sciences? if so that’s what i would do

I believe it is in the dept. of Transmedia and has some production and film studies/theory courses although I was not too impressed with the dept/facilities of that particular school when I was there. Looking for an excuse for Newhouse I think.
