Which College for Psychology?

Hello. I was accepted to three universities for psychology. They consisted of mostly matches and safeties. University of the Pacific, CalPoly Pomona, and UC Riverside. I have researched about all three and have found out that they are not really notable for psych. However, I have always viewed psych as being a major that is similarly structured across all universities, particularly for undergrad. I also plan to pursue graduate school. Now the question is- should I choose to go to one of these three or head to a CC and transfer? CalPoly Pomona is my first choice, as it is relatively inexpensive compared to the other two and is not so far away from home. Can someone list pros and cons for either option? Thanks.

Please help.

You’ve got three good options for psych.
It’s true that the curriculum for most psych programs will be comparable. What can be different is the focus on internships or practicums. Another difference could be on theoretical vs. practical.
By design, CSU’s are set up to be more practical than theoretical, so if that’s what you’re looking for, CPP would be the best choice.
Whichever school you choose you’re likely to be needing grad school, which will be funded by you.
As such, I say go with the cheapest option.
The reputation of all three schools will get you into grad school, which will be augmented by your future GRE score.

Good luck.

UoP is absurdly expensive for those paying full tuition. If that is you - I’d focus on the others. I also know 2 now Srs who lost their UoP scholarships mid year during their sophomore year. I don’t know the details other than it wasn’t a discipline/gpa issue. One stayed (at full fare) and the transferred to a CC, then Sac State.

If you want to go to CPP and it meets your other objectives - do it.

Good luck
