I am a current student in CUNY CC. My gpa is around 3.9. I dont have a SAT score coz I finished my highschool before coming to US. I really dont know which college I can get in..I only know stonybrook, city college, cornell and new york city college of technology are famous of computer engineering.

what’s your question?

cornell =/= nyc.

columbia is pretty good. nyu is the other famous private in nyc.

Columbia, NYU, Baruch College, Pace University, Hunter College, Queens College and St. Johns University are the only colleges in NYC I know. NY State has a lot of colleges I would not just limit yourself to NYC. There are some good schools with computer engineering in NJ; I would think NJIT and Stevens Institute of Technology are competitive.

my question is it possible for me to transfer to a good college such as cornell, columbia in my condition ?. I dont have SAT/ACT score and 3.9gpa at a not quite good cc.

I am not sure. I would not get your hopes up. I would suggest you take the TOEFL ,I think, and get a high score if you want to go to those schools. Any education you get is good and it is what you do with it in the end that matters.

I beleive Stonybrook would be good for you, also low in-state tuition. I think your chances of gaining entry there would be good. A good private option (at higher cost) would be Polytechnic University (also known as Brooklyn Tech). With high GPA, this would also be a realistic choice. If CCNY offers computer engineering as a major (I’m not sure, check it out if you haven’t already) I believe that would be your best CUNY option. I don’t see why you couldn’t get accepted there also. The key for you is mentioned above- if you are worried that you can’t get in somewhere because you’re lacking a test score or some other piece of paper, don’t sit around fretting about it, just find out (from the schools you are interested in) what you need to do to make up the deficiency, and then go do it.

Fordham’s pretty good as well, but it’s in the Bronx… they do have a campus in Manhattan though

can’t you take the SAT? (i really don’t know this)

Cooper Union is in NYC and has an Electrical/Communications engineering major. problem is the 11% admission rate

Is there a guidance counselor-type person at CUNY who can help you with this??

thank you all for answering my question
I took the toefl exam in my country and only got 570
hope that is not too low for good colleges

there’s some place called New School. looks interesting

[The New School | undergraduate and graduate degree programs, on campus and online](http://www.newschool.edu/)

There’s a school on staten Island. Wagner College. You could get it like THAT with your GPA. I don’t know anything about SATs, but you should get on that.

Fordham’s campus in the Bronx is GORGEOUS! Its right next door to the Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Gardens, both highly attractive sites. It has a campus at Lincoln Center as well, for the Law School and arts/theatre stuff and some more esoteric courses like Middle Eastern Studies etc. The students can cross register and free transportation runs back and forth between both campuses until the wee hours of the night. Its a superb school, where you will work very hard and write a lot of papers. Its in the shadow of NYU and Columbia to be sure, but they are gaining a national reputation and rising in the ranks and are considered a “HOT School” by USNWR this year. Last year Fordham had 22,500 applications for a class of 1700 freshmen.

You need to visit all the colleges in New York and see where you fit academically, socially, financially etc.

There are some smaller schools in New York area as well that are superb: Vassar and Marist in Poughkeepsie, and Manhattan College in Riverdale section of the Bronx, not far from Fordham. Each of these schools are superb!

Good luck.

Columbia is by far the best school in the city. Living about three blocks away from its main campus, I visit a lot, even though I don’t go there.

Fordham’s also known as the place where the kids who couldn’t get into NYU go…not exactly the reputation you may be looking for.

Gee…that was a lovely comment Greg. But its also not true. I know people at Fordham who got in and didnt choose NYU. And my kid was heavily recruited by NYU and didnt even apply because of numerous reasons.

People pick Fordham for Fordham. And people pick NYU for NYU.

I know a girl at Furman who turned down Emory.

go to collegeboard.com and register for the SAT. theres one coming up in January. theres free online test prep, too, to help you prepare for it. thats your best option if you REALLLLY want to go to columbia or cornell or nyu. also, if your GPA is that high and your coursework was like super rigorous, then you’ll make the cut. good luck.

Furman? I haven’t heard of that one…is it a LAC? It’s definitely not in NY

You attended Emory or are presently at Emory and you never heard of Furman? Hmmmmm…something wrong with that picture!

Furman is in Greenville South Carolina…about 2 hours from Atlanta and Emory and is a HUGE rival of Emory University. Furman is an amazing school. But if you never left New York I suppose you wouldnt know that.

Oh well.
