I am considering applying to both the University of South Carolina and the College of Charleston as a Fall 2014 transfer student. I am am in state resident attending a community college, and I have 62 credits (will have 72 by the end of Fall 2013 semester). My GPA is currently a 3.2. Both schools interest me, but I don't know if I would fit in at either of them. I am a 23 year old, nontraditional(mom of a 3 year old boy with autism), African American, Muslim student. The University of South Carolina interests me because it has social work and spanish(what I want to major in if I go there), a beautiful campus, a diverse student population, and a plethora of clubs and organizations to join. I feel like I would fit in better there because as a large public, there are probably a lot of nontraditional students like me who attend. However, the College of Charleston interests me as well because it is a small LAC(I would major in Women's and Gender Studies and Spanish with a minor in African/African American Studies) with amazing study abroad programs( I want to study abroad in Africa and in a Spanish speaking country). What deters me from attending is the fact that it is not diverse(14.4% African American compared to 17.1% at UofSC), there is no MSA(Muslim Student Association) on campus, and it doesn't seem to be very accommodating to nontrad students. What do you guys think? Which college would fit me better?

Since your question is more about the colleges than transferring per se, you might want to post on the College Search & Selection forum for a broader audience.

Thanks, I will!
