Which college is best for me? Any others?

Okay so I am a senior this year and will be applying to colleges for admission for the fall of 2011. I am thinking about majoring in business. Probably marketing or economics. I am still not a hundred percent certain. I would just like to know which college out of my choices is best for business (marketing, finance, economics, accounting). Overall in general.
Here is the list: Binghamton University SUNY, Geneseo SUNY, Uconn, Umich, UIUC, University of Minnesota, Northeastern, Rutgers. These are just a few colleges I've thought about applying to since they are not as far away to where I live. I live in NY. I have around a 3.5 gpa and have not taken the Nov SATs yet but scored 700 in math and 680 in writing for the march sats. Taking AP Eco and AP Stat this year. Are there any other colleges out there that have a good field in business majors? No schools like harvard, upenn, etc. since I don;t have the grades and money for that. Just some above average schools for business. Thanks.

UMass Amherst Isenberg School of Business.

^Thanks. Will be considering that.

Binghamton is better for business than Geneseo.
With your stats, you would attractive merit scholarships from Muhlenberg and Susquehanna in PA. You might also look at Villanova, St. Josephs, American, Franklin & Marshall, Marist, Penn State, Alfred and Fairfield. PM me if you have follow up questions

Good luck

Several schools on your list cost as much or close to the price of ivies.

Have you looked into Babson?

I have considered Babson and probably will be applying there. Thank you guys for the suggestions. Will look into them. Any others will be appreciated.

“UMass Amherst Isenberg School of Business”

This is a very mediocre business school. If you can afford to attend one of the better business schools in Massachusetts, I would highly recommend it. Look into BC/BU/Northeastern. They are harder to get into, but will offer significantly better return. However, all three of those schools are very expensive.

If you are looking for smaller schools, look into Babson, Bentley, or Brandeis (Jewish). These may also be a little cheaper, but not sure.

AU’s Kogod school of business has a good reputation regionally, has a good internship program and AU offers good merit scholarships

hese are just a few colleges I’ve thought about applying to since they are not as far away to where I live.

but scored 700 in math and 680 in writing for the march sats.*

??? what was your CR score for the March SAT? Many schools don’t really use the Writing score for admissions or scholarship consideration.

How much will your parents pay each year?

I really doubt schools like UMich (Ross), Rutgers, UConn and UIUC are going to work since they will be expensive…unless your parents will pay a lot…which it sounds like they won’t.

UMich costs about $50k per year for OOS students, the other OOS publics are also expensive.

You seem to have forgotten about OOS costs.

HOWEVER…Your stats are high enough for good scholarships at some **OTHER **schools with very good B-schools if your CR score is also good. :)

What is your budget? How much will your parents pay each year?

My parents don’t really mind paying too much for my education. I just want a university that has good reputation in business major (but not 100% sure if I will major in this, but pretty sure). Currently considering universities like UConn, Bing, Rutgers, UIUC, Babson, and maybe Northeastern for now. Still have a lot to speculate on so may add more to the list. Out of the universities that I just listed, which 1 is probably the strongest in offering business majors? Thanks for the suggestions on previous posts. Your comments are appreciated. :D

You should also decide if you want to live in a city, suburb or middle of nowhere. Also, do you want to live in Jersey? Try visiting each school’s campus. See what there is to do around campus. Try to get a feel if you are a big city person (most business people like the big cities for internships and other obvious reasons) or a big state school person (like the larger classes and big open spaces, and fine with greek life and parties instead of bars and nice restaraunts, etc.).

Hmmm… Suburban areas or city is ok. I just don’t like campuses that are in the middle of nowhere or deserted. NJ is ok I guess. It’s not that far from where I live so its alright. I need to visit my parents every other week when in college. I also prefer a college that is not a party school. A little is ok but not at an excess like some schools.

Can anyone give me some feedback on my college choices now? Which has best field for business in general? UIUC, Bing, Rutgers, Babson, Northeastern, Geneseo, UT, UCONN, UMICH. I know umich and ut are probably the best but any other on this list that follows? Am I even choosing the right colleges? If not, please suggest schools. Price does not matter for now. Thanks.

*

Ross is obviously the best on your list. Babson may be the next best after UT. I don’t have my rankings with me, so I don’t know if there’s much measurable difference between the rest.

What about Indiana U - Kelly… since money isn’t a concern?

Arizona State

What ELSE do you want in your college experience? quiet campus? spirited campus? Greeks? Cold/snowy weather? Warmer weather? rural campus? City campus? ???

*I don;t have the grades and money for [ivies]. Just some above average schools for business. *

Why did you write that if your parents will pay $50k+ per year for college (cost of UMich, Northeastern, etc)? That seems a bit odd. Are you sure your parents will pay over $200k for college? If you’re not sure, please ask.

UIUC is pretty much surrounded by cornfields.

I prefer quieter campus but also social to an extent. I also like cold weather so snow is not a problem. I actually prefer colleges in snowy weather. Hot and humid temp. like florida is a NO. As for the expenses, my parents obviously prefer a cheaper college but to them my education is more important;they are willing to pay a bit more if needed. However, it is in my best interest to go to a school that would not be too pricey unless I get scholarship and financial aid.

Oh yeah and mom2collegekids, can you please order my list of colleges from best to least since you seem pretty experienced. Thanks for the help.

I have limited knowledge, but in the last 2 years from what I’ve seen, Rutgers has been very poor in FA for OOS.

In comparing Rutgers OOS to Bing IS, Bing wins. The programs are on par with each other academically and the cost is the tip.

I don’t know enough to comment on the other schools.

I second yabeyabe - You should consider some schools that would give you solid merit.

@longhaul
thanks for the info. im going to take that into consideration now. still going to apply to rutgers just in case, but i guess bing will be my aim at least for now. thank you guys for the posts.

Best to worst… I put close ones in groups. Others may think differently and that’s fine :)

Mich
UIUC

Rutgers
UMinn

Northeastern

Bing

Keep in mind that the school year is fall thru spring…so few humid days in areas where there is humidity.

You have to qualify for need-based financial aid, and you’re not going to get any from these out of state publics except loans.

If you want a financial safety school that will give you lots of merit, then you need to add another school. I don’t see any of these giving you big merit.
