Which college is best for me?

I’d like to provide some stats and what I’m looking for in a school. If possible, Id like to take some suggestions on schools that might be a good fit.

Okay so stats :
Class of 2018 HS Grad
Female
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.6-3.8
Involved in many ECs, including CLASS President, Girls Scouts, etc.
Attends academic summer camp every summer
Part time fast food job
First Gen College Student
Plans on majoring in Chemistry with a minor in Spanish and then going to Med School

Okay I’m looking for: (and all of these are able to be compromised because I know I won’t find a single school that’s exactly like this)

A school within Tennessee, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia
Where I would be ranked highly enough to secure tuition scholarships
A school with a high concentration of black culture (example: Georgia State’s 40% black population)
Nice dorms
Near a metro area (within 30-45 minute drive)

Thanks for the help!

Try the HBCU schools.

Howard University is a great school.

Howard was my first choice. However, my mom told me that D.C. was wayyy too far. She would prefer for me to go to a school in the South… I’m definitely interested in HBCUs , but a PWI with High Black Concentration wouldn’t be bad either

Check out all of the lists online. Here’s one:

I went to college board big future, limited my search to the states you named, HBCU, and urban or suburban location and got 32 choices. You can also search on percentage of minorities under the diversity tab.

One possibility is Agnes Scott College, an all-women’s school in suburban Atlanta.

Gonna look into it thanks!

@dbaker2009 Based on your criteria, here my top picks

HBCUs
Spelman (may get a partial scholarship) - And who doesn’t love Atlanta
FAMU (full ride) - Tallahassee is the biggest city in northern Florida
Texas Southern (full ride) - Houston is amazing
Prairie View A&M (full ride) - Again, Houston is amazing and only 50 minutes away from this school
Tennessee State (full ride) - Nashville is a strong city
Xavier (full ride) - New Orleans is like no place else in the world

PWIs
Georgia State University (full ride) - Atlanta is great for black culture and big city living
University of Texas at Arlington (full ride) - DFW is also great for black culture and big city living
University of Houston (partial ride)- Houston is another great city for black culture and big city living
Florida State Univ (partial ride) - Tallahassee is OK and again the biggest city in North Florida
LSU (partial ride) - It’s an hour away from New Orleans

Do apply to Howard… You can see if, once admitted with scholarship, your mother may change her mind (seeing how it’s one of the most prestigious HBCUs.)
