I want to stay around this area (Dallas)and I looked into SMU and UTD. Austin College and Baylor seemed nice but not close enough to home (at least for my mom:)) If I went to UTD for premed do you think that would be frowned upon because they are not known to be amazing and as a last resort and a lot of the students seemed have have come from overseas and most of them were commuters. Do you think SMU would be better? But then again I'm not super rich. *I called both and both their programs seem to be mediocre. Should I wait to see which will be cheaper and decide based on that? *Will they tell me how much scholarship money I'm going to get on the acceptance letter? Or do you think that truly Baylor and Austin college would be better options? I heard that the name of the undergrad university doesn't really matter. *Do you think that is true? *Sorry its so long. And UTD is known to be an Indian school. Will that affect me in any way?

Sorry I don’t know too much about those two colleges. What I do know is that wherever you go, if you achieve stellar grades and have significant ECs, you’ll still get into med school no matter where you went. It is true to a certain extent that where you went matters, but a 3.9 GPA from, say, UTD, would be superior to a 3.6 from Austin/Baylor.

If you applied for financial aid, they will tell you their offer along with your acceptance letter.

Take a look at that program.

“Should I wait to see which will be cheaper and decide based on that?”

You would have to receive a really good scholarship to make SMU cheaper, or even close to the cost of UTD. If your academics are up there and you’re able to get a great scholarship, then theres no doubt that SMU would be the best RANKING university for undergraduate.
