Which college is right for my son? Gay, creative, writer

Ithaca and Bard would be great safeties, but I know they don’t meet the city requirement.

Stated Island is not part of NYC in any real sense. Even the people who live there like to think of themselves as being someplace else. Very conservative place.

True; but Wagner College itself is 55 minutes from lower Manhattan via the NYC transit bus system and its arts program is a big draw. Even the campus IMO is a mixture of Wesleyan and Vassar.

Yes, all true. My point was more to the point that if you step off campus in SI, you’re not in a gay friendly place as you would be in Manhattan or Brooklyn.

Let’s move on from Wagner…the suggestion is out there and the OP and son can research the school if they wish.

Your state school. Will save a lot of money.

May I suggest Eckerd College. It is in St. Petersburg, a great small city, very gay friendly, lots of entertainment venues, music, large and small theater companies, museums, etc. Eckerd is very well known for their Writers in Paradise workshops and offer a BFA in creative writing as well as theater. The college is home to a small, local theater company. Students take part in theater productions that are open to all. You can use all Florida state grants there.

Also, Macalester especially for writing and appreciation of fashion.
