Which college major to learn Chinese (Mandarin)

East Asian study or Chinese American Study?

Biology

Do you have a major that focuses specifically on the language? That’s what I would go for first, the others sound like cultural studies. This is also completely dependent upon the school as each one may have a different curriculum based upon that major, so look it up on the internet

Offhand I’d think you might want to major in Chinese. But you need to look at what is required/what is offered for the different majors at each school. You can almost always find that type of information on the school’s website.

You don’t need to major in either of those to learn Chinese. You just need to take Chinese language classes, which you can do without majoring in anything in particular.

A quick look at Asian American studies majors at a couple universities show that they usually don’t include language study (which makes sense, since it’s usually the study of people of Asian descent living in the U.S. and the Americas more broadly…). An East Asian studies major, however, would definitely include language study as part of the major. So East Asian studies or Chinese would be the best major to take.
