Which college should I aim for?

I currently have a 3.06 unweighted total GPA, 3.16 unweighted.
My SAT score is a 1760.

I'm wondering if I should take the RCC Honors program, where I take the first two years and transfer to a better UC. Should I do that or go to a four year private college like Pacific or Azusa? Or just go for UCR if thats possible?

Your SAT is average for UCR but your Weighted GPA of 3.16 (Is that UC weighted?) is way below the average of 3.77.
UCR would be a High Match/Low Reach depending upon your major. If you feel you are settling, then you should consider a CC for 2 years and do TAG to one of the other UC’s (UCSC/UCD/UCI/UCSB (not engineering). If you can afford a 4 year private, that may also be a good option. With your low GPA you will not be eligible for merit aid at any of the privates, so if you need FA, it may be limited. You might also want to consider Whittier College and La Verne University if you are looking at privates

Your Stats would also get you into many Cal States such as CSUMB, Sac State, CSU Fresno, CSU San Bernadino, CSUSM and CSUCI if you are interested.

Thanks for your response!

The only worry I have with taking the CC for 2 years then transfer is that I’m not sure what the chances will be that I could get into a UC school. The CC im planning on going to if I do take that route is RCC, which has an Honors Program that claims to have an 80% admittance rate to UCs, but I want to know how many students that took that program really got into UCs, which is hard to find. Would it still be worth taking the 2 years at the CC route rather than the 4 year university route?

If you use TAG at the CC, you are guaranteed acceptance as long as meet all the requirements. TAG can only be used for UCM/UCR/UCSC/UCD/UCI/UCSB (not Engineering). UCB/UCLA and UCSD no longer participate in TAG.

If money is an issue, taking the CC route is an excellent alternative. It would not hurt to apply to the schools are on your list and make the decision regarding a CC vs a four year, after all your acceptances are in.

Well said @gumbymom.
apply to a handful of schools listed above and see what happens.

If money is tight, using TAG to transfer from CC to UC are a good option.
