which college should I attend for Computer Science?

I know it is too early to ask such question when decisions have not all come out yet.
However, as an international student, I have to start preparing fund/budget even before accepting my offer :frowning:
So, out of these list of college, where would you attend for Computer Science?

Purdue University
Georgia Tech
UT Austin
University of Washington
University of Wisconsin-Madison

The least expensive one… all are solid choices.

All of these are good options. According to the Shanghai Ranking of World Universities, the universities you listed rank in the following order for CS:
UT Austin (7)
Purdue (21)
Georgia Tech (22)
Washington (51-75)
Wisconsin (76-100)

However, it all depends on how much you/your family are willing to pay for your undergraduate education. Do you have an estimate?

@wondervigilante max 45k ~50 k per year

U Wash does NOT allow direct admission into their CS program, so keep that in mind.

All are good. I’d pick UT or GaTech in that order.
UT is also one of the most affordable, and Austin is a great city for students.

Actually, it does, but for only about one fifth of the spaces available in the major (about 50 frosh). Naturally, direct admission to CS at Washington is more difficult than getting general admission to Washington. The remaining 200 spaces are subject to a competitive secondary admission process. About 1300 per year take the introductory CS course; eventually about 500 apply to the CS major, based on the reported 40% admission rate that results in 200 admitted to the CS major.

IMO since you have no idea where you’ll be accepted you need to prepare for the worst case - the most expensive place. Which would that be for you?

@“Erin’s Dad” Their tuition is all around 28k ~ 35k. So, I could say that they are in all same price range. Still, Texas and Seattle is the most expensive option.

Don’t forget room and board and ancillary (other) costs.

With no merit or financial aid, I think GaTech may come in the lowest of the group. Tuition is pretty reasonable there, even for OOS students.

GATech also has co-op program from which you can make some money.

The rankings posted above by wonder are based on research and graduate programs. You care about undergrad. Out of these, if you get directly admitted to CS for all, the best ranking would be

  1. UWashington
  2. GA Tech
  3. UT Austin
  4. UW madison and Purdue

This is not ranked with research, it’s ranked with job availability (UW has a lot of job recruiters come and fight over a very small amount of students - everyone get a job! they also have the most amount of undergraduate research awards [of all schools], but that doesn’t matter to you unless you want to do that)
