Which college should I choose for zoology?

I want to major in zoology. I live in California and I want to go to a school where there will be plenty of research and wildlife. I can't stay focused and passionate without being around what I'm studying. Humboldt seems like a great school, and it is in California, so it's even better. It also seems so beautiful. It's a very environmentally friendly school. (I'm a nature lover). But, I also want to go to University of Hawaii because it offers rare research opportunities because it's in Hawaii --> diverse wildlife! But, it's out-of-state and costs more.

These are supposedly some great zoology schools in the west:

University of Hawaii*
University of Washington
Oregon State University

I was wondering if it was better to go the three schools above and pay more money, or go to Humboldt? Because I want to go to a graduate school and I don't know if Humboldt will get me into a good grad school with a secure future because it is a CSU. I don't care about living in a different state, but the costs...

**I'm a junior in high school in southern CA, going to be a senior in the fall.

Humboldt State has an excellent reputation in the life and environmental sciences. I think one could do a lot worse but not a great deal better as an undergrad. At a little less than $20K per year for tuition and housing, it’s also a pretty good deal.

Save Hawaii and the others for grad school. They’ll still be there and a lot cheaper with graduate fellowships. While at Humboldt, you can try to get involved with summer research in interesting areas. For example, UH offers an REU program in tropical ecology and conservation.
