So my top 3 choices are University of Michigan, University of Miami and William and Mary. I am a virginia resident and I plan on majoring in exercise science/kinesiology or business if that falls through. I know William and Mary is an extremely good deal money wise however Im not sure I want to go instate as I sort of want to get away from my HS people and go somewhere different. I have also heard that the workload at William and Mary can be obseen and I do not want to go to colllege to work a million hours a night. I could run track and Field/ Cross Country most likely at the University of Miami ( being recruited) so that is an obvious plus. Michigan however is such a wonderful school, but very expensive (especially out of state). Which would you recommend?

Michigan is where I think you should attend, however if you cannot afford it try William and Mary.

tnx for the advice, i think you may have a point from evrything i have heard michigan is a wonderful school...just a bit cold nd a bit expensive haha

I would go to Miami.

TheU is the best school in the world!!!!

miami def seems to be where its at, do u go ther socal?

No, but I really want to. I'm a junior and it's my #1 choice.

id go to Miami

If you want to go to the best academic school, with the best reputation, you would be insane to not choose Michagin. It is arguably the second best state school in the nation. William and Mary would probablly be your best bet financially, and academically it's better than Miami. If you want nice weather and lots of parties, then Miami would probablly be your best bet.

All that being said, I would go with Michagin

Michigan, then W&M if you cannot afford

Big ten sports, best academics (out of these 3 schools by quite a bit)

The quality of their respective programs in your chosen area is important. so look into that. That said, UMich is excellent academically. W&M is demanding and has a very strong reputation ... at a fraction of the cost. Think about where you think you may end up practicing. If in VA, you might be able to make and strengthen connections while at W&M.

Do you want to be one of 30,000 or one of 5,000? Do you want a liberal arts academic experience or large U. Great Lakes vs Va beach. Jefferson, Monroe, Tyler vs Gerald Ford.

Workload at both will be the same, but W&M has less competition for professors attention. Michigan has more research facilities. Miami will be a year round party but not carry the respect after graduation.

You are really comparing apples and oranges here. But choose the one that has the envronment that you will thrive and be happy in the most.

I think you should go to William and Mary or UVA. Why are you not considering UVA? Don't worry about where your high school friends will be. You will rarely see them. Michigan is expensive OOS and UVA is a great public Ivy. William and Mary is a top notch smaller school. You would be foolish to spend all that extra money when you have two great public universities in Virginia. Only an Ivy, Stanford, MIT, Caltech might trump UVA/W&M for instate.
