Which college to choose

And I want a pony. Gee why don’t you do the homework and figure the pros and cons? So demanding! YOU can look up the percent of Int’l students.

I’m in CA and my daughter majored in CS and went to grad school but she was not looking at college for CS so that wasn’t part of the search.

I’d pick Irvine for you too. If you are Asian you’ll feel comfortable there and surrounding area. Davis student body likely has a lot of Asians too, but surrounding area not as much. Either would be a good choice for CS, Plus UCs overall is likely the strongest of your choices. Irvine has a quite good grad department you may get to mingle with or work with when you are an upper division student. One of my daughter’s professors recommended it to her for CS theory. I know they have other specialties. Irvine is densely populated suburban area, but very close to beautiful beaches and has nice warm weather year round. Davis is more rural and cooler but very temperate compared to the East Coast. It is more of a college town feel.

^^^ Yes, UMass (a.k.a. “Zoo Mass”) is something of a party school. Yes, it is in a cold climate. However, it does have a pretty strong Computer Science department. It also is $10K-$12K cheaper than the UCs (at full OOS rates, even before deducting the $8K scholarship).

<a href=“News & Events | Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences | UMass Amherst”>https://www.cs.umass.edu/news/latest-news/umass-amherst-cs-ranked-top-20</a>
(Its graduate CS program now is ranked 25th not 20th, which is still highest of the OP’s alternatives. It is especially strong in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.)

For an introvert who wants to focus on school, UMass without honors wouldn’t be a good choice. Right now, based on your indications, I’d say UCD, UCI, and RIT, then Pitt.

If you are primarily focused on your studies then I suggest UC Davis. The school’s reputation also is better than the rest of the schools you are accepted to. Davis has a more college feel and there isn’t much to do in the city compared to SoCal.

Disneyland isn’t around the corner but, there’s plenty for an imaginative college student to do in and around Davis.

@BrownParent I did my homework before applying to these college’s but I come from a very small city in India where people don’t even know about US universities that is why I was searching for some guidance at CC forum.
