Just wondering if anyone had stats on any of the colleges?

I've got a sheet of transfer stats by college for 2006 but I can't find the link anymore. I've just got it printed out in my Cornell section.

SCHOOL - # accepted / # applied

CALS - 254/499
Architecture - 23/104
Arts & Sciences - 81/1045
Engineering - 91/291
Hotel Admin. - 45/178
Human Ecology - 70/162
Industrial & Labor - 105/200

*Special students not included - referring to GTs.

I do not know the answer, but one thing:

I surely do not hope that you choose your major based on the easiness of its admission to Cornell. That'll make you look like a prestige wh0re who only wants to attend Cornell for its prestige, not for its specific program.

I hope it's not just a question of status...

:(

i was just wondering what the stats were out of curiosity. i know which school i want to apply to and thats because im actually interested in the major offered by that school.

It's not wrong to ask that question, noodle. It can be very pertinent information. In my case, I'm interested in Economics/Business. If I were unaware of the transfer rates by college, I'd apply to CAS (Econ), which only has an 8% acceptance rate, and be rejected without a second look. Since I've studied the schools and their acceptance rates, I went ahead and decided to apply to Applied Economics and Management (very similar, more of a business aspect) which is taught in CALS. Consequently, I will be applying to a school with a 50% acceptance rate and I may have a shot in hell.

yeah im interested in business/econ as well. ive been thinking about ILR for awhile now but now I'm considering CALS for business...hmm...

just be sure to take the prereqs in time if you are interested...

Bio I/II, Academic Writing I/II, Econ I/II, Calc I are all required.
Chemistry I or Physics I; Statistics are recommended.

thanks! do you think they wont look at my app if i dont have two semesters of bio? im not taking bio this semester...

Hmm...the only way I think you could make it work is by saying that you at least plan on taking both semesters of bio. Either if you could work out a deal to take Bio I/II in the spring, or Bio I in the spring and Bio II in the summer.

But ya, since it is Cornell, I have a feeling they won't give your app too much credit if you don't imply that you're going to take the prereqs before transferring.

hmm ok...ill figure something out. thanks for all your help =)

do they require that all the pre-reqs be completed for soph transfers?

good question. that seems a bit unrealistic, but it's best to ask the college.

hey brand I've got question for you..
if I got a 4 on ap bio exam, what do I need?
http://www.cals.cornell.edu/cals/prospective/admissions/applying/transfer/coursework.cfm
http://www.bio.cornell.edu/advising/ap.html
totally confusing.. (thanks in advance)

Yeah...it looks like you'd be exempted, but I'd call CALS. They're really nice there...actually, I think Cornell was probably the nicest place I've talked to so far.

But this page looks like it clears things up pretty well:
http://admissions.cornell.edu/resources/faq_answer.cfm?num=35

I'd still call to be sure.

"At least 6 credits must be of introductory biology and 3 credits of chemistry or physics."
http://aem.cornell.edu/undergrad/aae.htm

4 4 credits Placement out of any 4 credits of introductory courses. Biological Sciences majors and pre-medical students are expected to complete 4 additional Introductory Biology (Bio G) credits
http://www.bio.cornell.edu/advising/ap.html

:(

lol I just looked at the program requirements and now I don't think I want to apply there anymore.

Well, the part about 6 credits of intro bio and 3 of chem or phys isn't all required before transfer. Only the bio is required first...the other is part of the degree plan, but yeah it's more science focused than most business programs I've looked into.

Man that degree plan is killer. I've got so much more math than I need instead of a lot of the other stuff. At least I'll have the required courses completed, but thx for that link.

I'm kind of surprised that their communications programs requires biology and pre-cal. How is biology relevant to communications?
