Which College?

I applied to all my schools undeclared, but I’m thinking of majoring in political science and maybe double majoring or minoring in economics or mathematics. My options:
Union College- ~25k a year
UMass Amherst~ 20k a year & Commonwealth Honors College
Providence College~ 26k a year
American University~ Mentorship Program (don’t know aid yet, would have to pay 30k for first semester though)
Catholic University of America~ 26k a year
I’m struggling because I can really see myself at all the schools I’ve seen and don’t really seem to have a preference of big vs small school, or public vs private. I’m wondering what would be the best in terms of my possible majors and also internships and maybe getting into law school??? Prestige is also a very minor factor but of the five schools, which would be the most prestigious?

If you truly don’t have a preference, take the cheapest option – UMass Amherst is a good school and being in the Honors College will make you stand out (you’ll be a bigger fish in that particular pond). But have you visited the campuses? Sometimes in a situation like this you have to go by feel. Both of my kids knew as soon as they visited their eventual schools that “this is it.” You may have a similar experience.

@yankeeinGA I was hoping for that feeling but I haven’t yet!! I’m visiting D.C. this week to see the other two schools but so far I’ve felt like I could see myself at any of the schools. Thank you though!!!

You have two strong choices: Union (Top Lac) or UMass Honors (large flagship with honors). The two environments are so different that I don’t think you’ll be undecided after an overnight. Stay in a dorm, eat in the cafeteria, attend a freshman English class and a class in your major, etc. It’ll get clear then. :slight_smile:

@MYOS1634 thanks!!! Unfortunately I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go back and stay overnight at union before may 1st :frowning:

If I was in your shoes I’d take UMass + honors. Less money + something to help you stand out from the crowd.

@philbegas thanks! I’m probably leaning towards that right now

Definitely UMass. Flagship + honor+cheaper+more well-known+scholarship! Why not? Did you make you decision? Almost May 1st. Don’t wait until May 1st in case any deposit payment error occurs and then miss the deadline.

@gk1733: any closer to a decision?

@MYOS1634 I think I’m going with umass Amherst! I’m waiting to hear back from Providence with an appeal but I think regardless I’ll be going to umass

@gk1733 I think you’ll have a blast there. Enjoy!!

@yankeeinGA thank you so much!
