Which colleges have strong studo arts programs

My DD is looking for a strong studio art programs in either an university or LAC. High GPA and strong SAT's. East coast, west coast, midwest, no preference for location. We are just beginning "our" college search. Any suggestions?

My son was looking for small to medium, Eastcoast or Midwest with good art studio and art history. This was his list. (He ended up at Williams.)
Williams, Wesleyan, Hamilton, Kenyon, Conn College, Skidmore. For a female I would add Smith.
He also liked Yale and Brown.

For directions on how to submit an art portfolio look under Supplementary Materials on the college’s admissions website. I like the idea of including an art package which would the slide/CD portfolio; an art resume with classes, awards, achievements; an additional recommendation from an instructor or mentor; an artist’s statement; one or two (max) media articles.

Art can be a powerful EC in a college application but you have to be sure to communicate your dedication.

Thanks for the info!

Wesleyan is known for good studio arts in an LAC setting. As a studio arts grad (long ago) from Kenyon, I can attest to the value of the strong, small department! BUT–make sure you look at the school’s course offerings–it makes no sense to head to a school that doesn’t have appropriate courses in the media she is drawn to (no pun intended!). And now, in the internet age, you can also look at the output of the art profs–much like a science-major kid wants to see the research a school’s profs are into, an art student may want to see just what KIND of sculpture/painting/printmaking/photography is the focus of the professors’ work.

Oh, and I forgot to say–last year, when touring colleges with my D (who has no interest in Art, the fink!), I absolutely drooled over the beautiful, PRIVATE, studios at Conn. College!

university of washington, boston university, vassar, smith, skidmore, indiana, risd. other gems in include cuny brooklyn and queens – these are for painters.

Started to tour schools and D has decided she definitely wants a small (less than 2000) LAC. Does any one have any specific info on the arts programs at Hamilton and Skidmore? Any other suggestions for a small LAC with a strong studio art program would be appreciated.
