Which colleges have the best student newspapers?

It doesn't necessarily have to be a J-school, but a school with a noteworthy student paper.

One institution’s swag:

thanks! I’ll have a great time reading these and deciding which college would be a best fit for me (based on journalism/English programs)

One wonders (1) what the criterua were, and (2) whether the ranker examined every college newspaper published in the US. All the “winners” save two are from Ivy, near-Ivy or flagship schools. I wonder if they even looked at papers like the (excellent) Northern Star, published by Northern Illinois University.

Here’s the methodology, as stated by PR:

Pretty shaky IMO. One of the questions they asked was “How popular is the newspaper?” Popularity doesn’t have a whole lot to do with quality, IMO. Has more to do with the priorities of the student body and whether they are a newspaper-reading campus.

you’re right. That survey is unreliable…I am hoping to attend a university with a strong journalism background/history.

Those are based on something more than student popularity, and thus are much more likely to reflect something approaching newspaper quality.

Why anyone pays any attention to anything Princeton Review does is beyond me.
