I belong to the class of 2007 and I intend to major in either Journalism, Creative Writing, or English Composition. I scored a 2280 on the SAT Reasoning Test (CR:720 M:760 W:800) but my weighted G.P.A. will only be a 3.6 by the time that I apply for college(I have maintained a 4.0 G.P.A since the second semester of my sophmore year). Which schools offer the best undergraduate writing programs that i could potentially qualify for?

you could potentially qualify for many top shcools with such numbers. although the name of the following school may scare you away, consider it. The University of Iowa is renowned for its top creative writing program and for its job placement as well.

Iowa's strength is mainly it's MFA program. Look into Johns Hopkins University.

Search for lists of schools good at creative writing, and keep in mind many will not have journalism, and that some will only have creative writing as an emphasis with a greater emphasis on the analysis of literature.

I'm very much in the same boat as you, with similar SAT score/grades (2270/3.7) and interests, so I've done some research.

Middlebury's English program is quite distinguished, as it is associated with the Breadloaf Writer's Conference. With your stats, it's a sound match. Most liberal arts colleges offer excellent creative writing options, if not majors, among them Reed, Vassar, Swarthmore, and Sarah Lawrence. The aforementioned University of Iowa is better known for its graduate Writers' Workshop, but I would argue that the undergraduates are thus able to benefit from the same high quality education.

In regard to journalism, you should especially look into Northwestern. It has an excellent journalism school. Others to consider are USC, Syracuse, and Mizzou.
