<p>For example, why is it that some people get it from USC and some don't?</p>

<p>colleges find you through the college board, your HS, or through their admissions officials' visits to you HS (anybody who's been to a presentation knows what I'm talking about)</p>
<p>It sometimes depends on where you live; proximity to your house and that kind of stuff.</p>
<p>I also think that when a college still has a lot of brochures, they will pick random people off the PSAT lists and send them mail. I then get stuff that say "Here is the information you requested" even though I didn't. </p>
<p>There are a lot of factors, like the prospective major you put down on the PSAT etc. It's very customizable.</p>
<p>I get stuff in the mail from The University if Illinois Urbana/Champaign that says "We are EXTREMELY interested in your blah blah blah and encourage you to blah blah blah and oh yes be sure to visit our campus ASAP."
I classify that as BS.

<p>I think my parents signed up for some weird international student list while we were living overseas. I get mail from schools like Western Wyoming Community College. I hope that doesn't mean anything :||</p>
<p>I get LOTS of crap from this one, different state (like 6 different schools) but I never even lived in/went to school there! And I'm homeschooled--as far as they know, I'm a high school drop out hahaha.</p>
<p>Johns Hopkins and Tulane spam me a lot.</p>
<p>omg, and Mercer University. They are the worst.</p>
<p>Tulane is horrible.. literally 2-3 emails everyday, not to mention postcards and brochures at least twice a week. </p>
<p>and also a lot of colleges i've never heard of, thank god i made a separate email address for all of this</p>
<p>I just want to say now that it means NOTHING, Im not being harsh, just saying.</p>
<p>I get letters from MIT, to fordham, to Devry. When you take the PSAT there is a small box that says something along the lines of "Would you like to receive information from colleges?"</p>
<p>if you do not fill in NO you will be spammed FOREVER. I have so much junk mail and email, that it should against the law to waste so much paper.</p>
<p>emory and nyu and michigan state university have no lives..i'm bombarded with their mails at least once every month, and princeton just annoys me when there are events going on</p>
<p>Haven't taken the PSAT or SAT yet, but have got stuff from MIT, Stanford, Ohio State, Boston University, Oxford University, etc</p>
