Which colleges should I apply to? (2150+ sat, 3.7 w gpa)

Hey everyone!
I've already created and recreated my college list, but thought maybe some new imput might be useful. I wouldn't want to overlook anything.

So, given that I got a 2150 on my last SAT (690 cr, 660 m, 800 w and a retake last saturday that I expect at least +30 points on) and I have a 3.7 w gpa and a 3.5 uw gpa, what schools does the CC community recommend that I check out?
(the upward trend here is pretty huge. went from 3.1 1st semester freshman year to 4.1 2nd semester junior year and 4.2 now)

I want to major in political science or international relations.
(I did some cool ec stuff that makes me a better applicant for this type of major like an international internship in france)

Also, I go to an absurdly competitive private schools that sends ~45 kids a year to top 20 schools.
(however, this doesn't account for my gpa in any way, [sidenote here: school doesnt rank] those kids are getting 4.1+)

Let me know!
P.S. I'd love a school on the west coast or the east coast. not much preference there!

How’s the money? Can your family afford what schools expect them to afford?

Holy Cross, Tufts, URichmond.

Do you have any other preferences, for example as to size, setting (urban/rural/suburban), sports and Greek scene, etc.? What about cost? Can your family afford ~$60K/year? If not, can you afford the Expected Family Contribution at pricey private colleges or out-of-state public universities?

Foreign Policy magazine ranks IR programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Many of their top-rated schools would be very high reaches … but good target schools might include GW, American, University of Denver, and Rochester. Tufts, NYU, and Johns Hopkins would be a bit less reachy than some of the Ivies.

How much will your parents pay each year?

i690 cr, 660 m, 800 w "

Your 800 in the W won’t count for much at many schools. Many schools really look at the M+CR…and yours is a 1350, which is good, but not “top school” good. It’s equivalent to about an ACT 30…which is LOW for top schools.

What is your major?..career goal?

Much will depend on how much your parents will pay each year. If you’re not sure, ask them.

University of Michigan would love you. Think about Fairfield in CT and Arizona State - Go Devils!

I don’t think U of Michigan would love her with those SAT scores (one of my kids was a legacy with higher SAT scores and did not get in). She might get in, but it would be a reach, esp. for an OOS student. How about Dickinson? Good IR, especially strong study abroad, probably in range for your stats, east coast.

why not George Washington or American, both good in your fields of interest and located in the center of the American political universe? if you come, plan on interning here or don’t come at all. don’t think that will be a problem for you ;+)

do you have any language expertise? do you have any preference for Asia or Europe, Africa or South America?

I agree UMich is a stretch, but Tufts is not likely. However, the tough private school could convince either of these schools to take a chance on you; hard to know what the admissions officers think about the school.

From other posts it seems the OP is from CA. Obviously he should be looking at the UCs. Even if the OP got into UMich it would cost $55K/year.

I think we’ve lost the OP. sigh.

Hey everyone! thank you so much for responding!
To clarify some things… money should be capped at around 55k a year and I’d prefer to be close/semi close to a city.

Also, there was some confusion and I’d like to say I’m definitely a guy.

Additionally, I have a 750 US History if that counts for anything. In December I’ll be taking French and World and expecting pretty decent scores.

and my school has admissions officers from top schools come weekly. While it’s good that the school is on the radar for pretty much any good school, I’m still competing against my classmates which makes things very difficult.

To answer jkeil911 I would LOVE to go to school in DC and intern there. Also, because I am French-American my interest in Europe is pretty solid.

So George Washington and American are the obvious choices, if you can afford the high prices (either as a full-pay student or by qualifying for aid). Ditto for Georgetown and Johns Hopkins (although they would be long reaches for your stats). The University of Maryland is another possibility.

Among DC area schools, Howard looks like a low cost safety, with an automatic scholarship for tuition, fees, and room for your stats.

TK-
I’m already applying to GW. I visited and loved it. Couldn’t say the same for American unfortunately.
I wasn’t originally going to apply to GT but at this point I think I’m just going to go for it and see what happens. After all, they called it a dream school for a reason right? Haha.
I think it’s pretty safe to say JH is a nonpossibility at this point.
and thank you for pointing out U of Maryland! I wouldn’t have heard about it otherwise. I think after some research I might add it to my list! That was super helpful.
