what are the best schools that i could apply to and have a high chance of getting in?
also, any suggestions on how to make my resume stronger would be highly appreciated :]]

OP = Original Poster. Since you’re instate for Texas look at those schools. You won’t make UT at Austin since you’re not in the top 10% but there should be some other options.

The issue is that if you qualify for aid, OOS usually means private schools will be more workable. In CA the publics cost about $25K for a CSU and $42K for a UC with no aid but Federal. The privates, however, can give you much more aid.

No issue if you can afford the full cost though.

There are just a lot of posts here by kids who don’t understand this.

Think about what type of environment you want to help narrow your search. Go see some schools of different sizes and a range of locations (urban, suburban, rural) to see where you can thrive. Then look at what types of majors you might want. Then narrow down your list. The best school for you to get admitted is the one where you are comfortable and therefore can get the most out of the experience.
Congratulations on the extensive volunteer work. I know how tough that is. My daughter also logs lots of volunteer hours, and what she gets out of that really has guided some of her decisions for next year, both in school and in her possible major. Many schools give alot of weight to applicants who have consistent, dedicated, measurable volunteerism because it shows that it’s not just a check-off for a resume, but rather is probably a reflection of the person.
The best of luck in your search!

If you want to go to college in CA and you have excellent stats, I suggest you look into Pomona or Mckenna Claremont College. I heard they are one of the more generous private schools in terms of giving aid.
