How do I find out if a college superscores the SAT? Meaning they will only take the highest score from each section instead of all the scores from the highest single setting? Anyone know if these colleges superscore?
University of Wisconsin- Madison, Northwestern university in evanston, IL, university of chicago, carnegie mellon, Duke Univeristy, University of Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis.

i know michigan does not, and i think duke does. don't hold me to that though

Why care? Your application will be treated like those of the other applicants to the same college.

Uh, because for the colleges that do superscore, it's to my advantage to retake the SAT for a higher score.

It's to your advantage to retake the SAT for a higher single-sitting score too. That's why I wonder why people think this issue makes a big difference: whatever a college does to consider one of multiple SAT scores for a particular applicant, it does for all applicants with multiple scores, and for none of the applicants with only one score.

Good luck on the next test. The information you seek should be available on the college Web sites. As a quick rule of thumb, most state universities consider test scores on a single-sitting basis, and most private colleges and universities consider them section-by-section (that is, "superscore").

Superscoring matters because they tell you where your focus needs to lie. For example, a got an 800 on a section of the SAT I the first time I took it, and did very poorly on another section. For my next SAT, I focused on only the section I did poorly on, because I knew that the 800 would stand for all but one of the colleges I am applying to. Having that 800 was very important to my score, but I didn't need to spend time studying to get it again instead of focusing on my weak subject.

Scorpio, I recommend e-mailing each college's admission department. That way, you have the authorized answer in writing for your reference. I e-mailed each admission office (or asked in person) and made a chart of all the schools to which I am applying. Next to each school name I checked whether or not the school superscores and whether or not it considers the writing portion. It's useful to have a chart like this handy when you're looking at the stats from the colleges.

Carpe Aeternum, have you received your scores from the later test? Did you get the boost you expected on the section you were focusing on?

Yes. My score in that section went up 60 points. My goal for that section had been a 40 point increase.

Actually, I have heard that Wash U superscores the ACT but don't quote me.

UVa superscores SAT

I heard stanford superscores
