OP – If you take anything away from this thread, I hope it will be that us parents who were out of the college game for a while do not understand that the old standard 3-5 applications is now 8-12.

In my day the 3-5 rule was to shop for acceptances.

Now the 8-12 rule is to “shop” the best financial package which is not very transparent.

It would meet your stated preferences, and the Marquis Scholar program sounds like it would be within your reach based on your stats.

Lafayette Marquis Scholarship: Lafayette Scholarships Tuition & Aid Lafayette College

Marquis Scholars receive an annual minimum award of $20,000 ($80,000 over four years). Financial aid applicants who are designated as Marquis Scholars and whose financial need exceeds $20,000 will receive a scholarship up to demonstrated need minus a campus job ($2,000) and a loan, depending on family income.

Scholarship recipients are typically at the top of their graduating class in the most demanding curriculum available, with SAT scores (Critical Reading and Math) in the mid-1300s or better or ACT Composite score of 31 or better.

I would definitely keep William and Mary on your list. It’s a great school, strong in many disciplines, beautiful campus, keen sense of community. Students love it and feel cared for by the admin. I don’t, however, know how “Greek” it is, but maybe someone more knowledgeable could weigh in.

Hmmm…where did that come from?! Just wondering if you’ve ever set foot on a SUNY campus and which one you’re thinking of! There are 64 SUNY’s and more than a few, including Geneseo, are really quite pretty…

I’m also applying for Fall 2011 and my scores on SAT/ACT are similar to yours(2060/29) and my senior schedule is pretty similar. I’m going to high school in Florida. I too am in need of aid to get into college. Now, I have been designated as a National Merit Commended Student and a National Achievement Semifinalist but nonetheless you and I are similar academically and I will say that I’m almost certain you can get a merit scholarship somewhere. I mean I didn’t even send my SAT scores to Drexel or Albright and they’ve offered me their Dean’s Scholarship($15,000 per year) and Albright has offered me a Provost Scholarship($15,000 per year). UMAINE has offered me their highest Merit Scholarship which is $10,000 per year. I don’t think you have anything to worry about. And these are only Merit Scholarships. You could always apply for financial aid by filing the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. Since we’re pretty similar academically, I’ll list the schools that I’ve applied to.
