Which Cornell Institute Do I Apply too?

Hi, I want to go into pre-law and business for my undergraduate. Which Cornell college do I apply to?

Any of them.

Fine, to be more specific, I want to minor in business so which college shoudl I apply to and what corses should i take for:

Pre-law and business management?

First get accepted, than we can talk classes.

But a friend of mine who majored in Anthropology is now making well into the six figures working at Goldman Sachs. He is four years out. So you can major in anything.

There are a few options for doing business/pre-law. You can do AEM is CALS, although admission is very competitive…they have 95 spots open each year. There is also Policy Analysis and Management in Human Ecology…although this more government oriented. I have a friend who was a PAM major and is now at UPenn law.

human ecology, PAM program

Thanks all, and one extra question. I have around a 3.3-3.4 gpa, but have a 1560 SAT out of 1600, and a 2250/2400. What can I do to improve my chances of admission, and what are my chances?

Extra Curriculars:

 1. School Senate, 4 years
 2. Tutoring at a community house to diabled kids: 2 years volunteer and 1 year job
 3. 96hrs x 2 years of volunteering at a elementary school, helping kids with homework and teaching them sports.
 4. Starting a school team/club
 5. Tennis team (maybe join next year)
 6. Brown University Summer Program

Help me!!!

Your SAT’s are very competitive, and your EC’s are nice (leadership positions are key). As of right now, just try to raise your GPA, that’ll probably be your best bet.

Make sure to take the hardest curriculum your school offers, get to know your counselors and the professors who will be writing your rec’s

Thanks chendrix, that’s really helpful. Senior year, I’ll be taking AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics and AP Liturature. This year though, I don’t have any AP’s. What are my chances at Cornell? Should I ED?

About 30% of Cornell’s entering class comes through ED…so if you really want to come to Cornell then it might be to your advantage to apply ED.

Also…I heard from a CALS adcom member that this year’s RD group was very competitive…due to the increasing quality of student but also as a result of schools like Princeton and Harvard getting rid of ED.

I won’t give you a percentage, because that’s just dumb, but if you can raise your GPA a bit more I would say you would definitely be competitive.

About ED, that is absolutely your choice. If you are absolutely sure you want to come to Cornell if you get in, do it (They have a 37% acceptance rate compared to the 20% of RD) just know that the ED applicants are also extremely self-selective, so you will be competing against some very strong students.

Once you are in competitive standings, it all comes down to those immeasurables, like essays, recommendations, and the like.

What are my chances though, with:
GPA: 3.33
SAT: R: 760 M: 800 W: 690

Extra Curriculars:

 1. School Senate, 4 years
 2. Tutoring at a community house to diabled kids: 2 years volunteer and 1 year job
 3. 96hrs x 2 years of volunteering at a elementary school, helping kids with homework and teaching them sports.
 4. Starting a school team/club
 5. Tennis team (maybe join next year)
 6. Brown University Summer Program

What are my chaces with or without ED?

With ED: 103.4%
Without ED: .003%

LOL love how much of a difference ED makes. Thanks Chendrix, and anyone else, throw in their 2 cents will be much appreciated!!!

Oh, one more thing: I heard a rumor that living in NY increases your chances for admission. Is this true??

Being an NY resident is really only considered if you apply to CALS, HumEc or ILR as they are contract colleges…the deans like to keep a 60/40 split.

How much do SAT score affect admission?? SAT II? ACT?

anyone?? Again, how much do SAT and act have on college admission? And what are my chances at cornell

GPA: 3.35
SAT: 2250 CR and Math: 1560

EC:
2 years volunteering at a community house, tutoring disabled kids
1 year working at community house for money
3 years volunteering elementary school, helping kids with HW and playing sports with them (or teaching them rather)
7 weeks at Brown’s summer program taking 2 college credit courses
1 year tennis team
Taking part and leading may religious ceremonies?? (does it count)
3 years on school senate and ran (unsuccessfully) for student body president

any feedback would be nice…

20.4%

Increase your GPA.
