Which CUNY is best for pre-med?

Hi. I’m looking to transfer to a CUNY and want to study pre-med. I am sorta keen on Baruch atm, but since it’s mostly known for business, I’m not sure if it’s a good choice for me.

The City College of New York, Hunter, Brooklyn, NYC College of Technology, College of Staten Island, John Jay, York, Baruch, Lehman, and Medgar Evers.

Please help. Personal experiences welcome!

Thank you in advance.

Baruch would be great if you can handle both their core business curriculum and the premed pre-reqs you still have to complete (plus, this way, you have an excellent fallback in case you don’t get into med school). Their school of public affairs with a concentration in public health would be a good choice.

CCNY is the next one, then Hunter, then whichever is closest to your home.

OP, reading your other threads, you had a rough first semester at a private university in NYC, where your GPA was just above a 2.0 and you were looking at transferring to one of the CUNY Community Colleges (you were also exploring Canadian Universities during the fall of 2016).

Did you transfer to the community college or did you stay at the private university? How were your grades for the second semester? Transferring to Baruch, CCNY, Hunter, Brooklyn or Queens will be difficult unless you can get your GPA above 3.0. Also, with two Fs on your transcript, medicine might be a stretch at this stage. BTW, being an international student on an F-1 Student Visa, can you even apply to US medical schools? You also mentioned in one of your other threads that nursing was an alternative. If so, you might want to apply to Lehman and York College, since both CUNYs have a nursing program.

Which (expensive) private university did you attend in NYC?

@MYOS1634 thank you! I like the plan, though now I’m wondering if my current grades will get me accepted to Baruch in the first place. I really wanted at one point to attend BMCC, and even visited and was planning to apply directly. It was significantly closer to where I lived compared to my old school. Oh well.

@Jamrock411 I did neither. I had to go back to my home country for other reasons. If I get accepted, I’d have to reapply for the F-1 again, this time for Spring 2018. Did I mention getting Fs? I hope not, because all I did was withdraw from 2 classes, ending up with just 7 credits for the semester. Officially my GPA is 2.44. I was lazy and hardly did what was required of me, I’ll admit it. But I really need to get my act together. Now.

And yes, I believe if I received an undergraduate degree in the States, it’s possible to get into med school. Otherwise, I’m still all right. I don’t want to think that much far ahead right now. I think I should consider CUNY community colleges for now, and see how things go. Maybe stick to nursing.

Thank you for the suggestions and advice, I appreciate it.
