I am a high school senior who will be applying to colleges this year. I plan on majoring in political science and/or a social science related to it. So far, Queens College is my first choice. Are there any other CUNY’s that would be better for me as a political science major?
I have a 3.8 GPA, so far a 2010 on my SAT (I will be retaking it in October), I am editor-in-chief of my school newspaper, captain of the college bowl team… I hope to get into Macaulay. I am applying to CUNY because of its financial practicality. I am just wondering whether Baruch or Hunter would be better for me as a social science major.
Have you considered also applying SUNY and seeing the amount of aid you will get because you would get a lot of merit scholarships. The SUNY college fairs are coming up, I’m going to the one in Nassua County on the 16th but it’s just something good to look at with merit and income your tuition could go down ALOT. I’m applying to Oswego for Political Science. I’m looking at CUNY too but other than Queens and Queens borough college. I can tell you more about the SUNY fair if you want.unless you are fully committed to CUNY. There is an EOP program for SUNY and if you qualify financially you go to graduate school for free and barely pay anything for school, just something to think about.
~ Jessica a senior too
For political science, I agree Honors at Albany or Geneseo would be better than Queens. Overall, Baruch is better than Queens and they have excellent social science majors (nit just business. ) But if you qualify for EOP and financial aid , considering your stats, I’d go for a residential college with excellent alumni network and resources. That’d make all the difference for you (if you’re lower income/first gen with these stats, you’re exactly the student who benefits most from attending an elite residential college.) If you’re looking for merit because your efc is too high, you’ll need to apply widely.
If you’re a girl, look into Barnard.
For political science, Hamilton’s network is awesone.
Both participate in EOP and have great financial aid.
