Which Dining hall to visit (with allergies)

We will be visiting UMD. Which cafeteria would you suggest we eat dinner at on a Sunday. Collectively, our family has alllergies to milk, egg, peanut, and gluten. Also, i heard one of the cafeterias will be replaced in the next year or so? Which one? Is it less desirable than the others and not the best choice for us? Thanks

My daughter says that she heard Ellicott Dining is supposed to be replaced, but does not know why. She also said that if you go in the back in any dining hall, they will make food for you if you tell them about your allergies. You can also contact Nutrition, Allergies, and Special Diets - nutrition@umd.edu or 301-314-8058 during business hours.

I would recommend 251 or the Diner, both on North Campus. I believe it is the Diner that is being replaced, due to the construction of 2 new dorms and a new dining hall. I don’t know the status of the construction effort. I have never eaten at either one, but my D has. I also do not know their Sunday hours.

If you are looking to taste dining hall food, that’s one thing, but if you are looking for a good meal as a family…I would say to go 10-15 minutes off campus to Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville. Great food every time and they have specifically gluten free options https://www.busboysandpoets.com/locations/?location=hyattsville&venue=hyattsville. Meets everyone’s needs for allergy sensitivities and a great place to eat in general on its own merits. Here’s the menu https://www.busboysandpoets.com/menu/lunch-dinner-menu/

Thank you, maryversity, there are a lot of options there!

No problem - one of my favorites when I used to visit and we did graduation day brunch there. Consistently good food with a fun ambience.
