Hey everyone. So I'm registered for genetics but not sure what discussion(s) to attend. Let me rephrase it, when I signed up for my other classes I registered for a discussion where lecture is mandatory however, for genetics I signed up for lecture, but not sure what to do about discussion. Does this mean discussion is mandatory, or do we just pick a day of the week to attend. Sorry for the dumb question just wanted to be sure I'm clear on this. Thanks!

Assuming that discussion is like other classes, which it looks like it is, all you have to do is select a discussion time that you would like to go to. Its meant to help larger classes have smaller sections for questions, etc. It also helps with scheduling by allowing you to choose a section that fits into your schedule best.

when I took it, we had to sign up for discussions on sheets of paper posted in pacific hall. the choice of discussion was yours, but you would have to stick with it for the rest of the term.

It’s not a dumb question. I was confused with the same thing as a freshman too. In the biology department, you don’t sign up for your section when you enroll in the class like most other departments do. Depending on the professor, you can have a different way to sign up for sections. I had a professor just tell us to go to any section, I had one who made us sign up on a sheet of paper, and I had one who made us sign up on the biology website. One of my biology professors had our sections be mandatory, so it COULD be mandatory but I can’t speak for that professor.
