So i'm thinking of applying to cornell or upenn ED next year. My dad works at penn. He has a high position in the physics department (director). My mom use to work at penn, my brother is attending penn right now and my other brother is working at penn currently. However, my dad went to Cornell as an undergraduate. Which school would i have a better chance of getting into. Legacy? or Facalty + brother is undergraduate at penn currently?

Have your dad speak with the HR dept at Penn. You’ll know immediately what boost his employment there gives you. My bet is Penn > Cornell on this issue for you.

But a 3.5GPA gives you almost no chance at Cornell.

Penn 1000 percent. Ask yourself this: how many people have legacy status? How many people have a family member working in the school? Since less people have the latter, it gives you a better boost. As long as your grades are not way below the 25 percentile and you do ED at penn, expect some good news.

If you’re applying ED, I think the question really shouldn’t be where you have a better chance of being accepted, but where you would rather attend. If you prefer one strongly over the other, then apply there ED. If you are torn, then I frankly would just apply to both RD. Applying early is for people who are really really passionate about a specific school. If you are simply applying to the school you think you have the best chance at, then that will show in your application. Also, if you apply to where you think you have the best chance and get in, but still really like the other school, you will be wondering for a long time about whether or not you could have gotten in to the other school. The thing about ED is if you have second thoughts, you can’t change your mind later on.

yeah i’ve thought about that and now realize that i would rather go to Penn, Ranza123.

@budyboy awesome! I hope that’s where you choose to apply then, and I wish you the best of luck!
