which do you think is better between Rice and CAL-Berkeley?

I have visited CAL-Berkeley just a few weeks ago and I like the ambience. well, needless to point out that it's globally reputable too. But my relatives who mostly live in Texas are all telling me to go to Rice. I would be honest that I have not heard of Rice before but I now know that it's such a big name school in the US. If I get accepted to study economics or business in the two schools, which do you think is the better school, in ALL aspects -- reputation, career after college, etc, etc...

btw, I want to work in Asia perhaps in Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, etc, after college.. despite that, i am not clsing my door to work in the US if there's a good opportunity.

Berkeley's business school is ranked really high, but im not sure how and to what extent this affects its undergrad eduction

You really need to decide what you are looking for and then you can research individual schools to see what fits you best. In many aspects, UC-Berkeley and Rice are like night and day!

UC-Berkeley is a large (30,000+ students) public university whose worldwide reputation is based primarily on its graduate programs. Rice is a small (5,000 students) private university that focuses on undergraduate education -- particularly in certain specialties like engineering, music, and sciences -- but it has some excellent graduate programs too.

You can major in economics at Rice, but Rice does not offer an undergraduate business degree. Its business school offers an MBA only. So if you want a general business/management degree, Rice is out of the running.

I agree that fit matters most, but worried mom's quote about Berkeley's reputation being based on grad school is off base. Yes, Cal's grad schools are second to none, but that doesn't mean that it's UG isn't great too. UG department rankings always have Cal near the top in Business and all fields of engineering.

UCal Berkely is one of my favorites of all time. Maybe because of holding the reputation of the birth place of BSD operating system.... hmmm.... there are others too. But since its a public school and I'm an international student, I won't be getting too much aid out there. I'd prefer Rice but still there's this question about financial aid... any ideas?

If you want to work internationally, Berkeley's name will hold more weight.
