Which dorm for College of Biological Science ?

Hi, I'm going to the CBS next fall, and because I live on campus, I need some advice to choose the best dorm to live.

I'd like to live in a dorm having AC, so I rule Sanford and Pioneer out.

And I don't know if living at Bailey really helps me as CBS student. Bailey is notoriously isolated, so is it okay to live near CBS facilities while alienating myself with the U's atmosphere ? Moreover, I heard of most of classes in first year will be taken at Minneapolis campus, is it right ?

If Bailey does not work, I still have Middlebrook, Frontier, Comstock, Centennial and Territorial to decide.

I'm an international student so I don't have an opportunity to visit the school, but knowing that I don't like parties but rather some nerdy science students, could you guys help me to choose among those residential halls.

When did you apply for housing?

@agnijay: I’ve already applied in early February, but they said I can change my selection until July !?

May 15th is the last date to change your housing preferences … Unless they have changed something recently.

The “biology house” is in Frontier hall. D1 is a freshman in CBS this year and is living there. It is working out very well for her.

Almost all of your classes as a freshman will be on the East Bank, so don’t worry about that.

My friend, who will be a freshman at CBS next year, is hopefully living in Comstock.
I hope to live in Comstock this fall too!
I have slept over at my gf’s comstock dorm, and I really like it there because it is quiet and not as party savvy as the “superblock.” The dorm houses mainly upperclassmen (i think), but that isn’t bad, right?

Good Luck and welcome to the U of M family!

As a freshman in CBS, the majority of your classes will be in Minneapolis so worring about living in STP is not neccesary. Not to mention, as a current resident there myself, I strongly advise ** everyone ** against living in Bailey. There are a few cool and personable people living here, but they’re far and few and the overwhelming majority of people are antisocial and pretty uninteresting. And don’t even get me started with how crappy and inconvenient living on the STP campus is.

Most intro science classes you’ll be taking will likely be in Smith Hall, the STSS Building, Tate Lab, or other buildings around the mall. For that reason, Comstock is the most convenient but I’m not sure how freshman-oriented it is. It’s a nice dorm nonetheless.
I’d also recommend Frontier. Everyone I know who lives there is in CSE, but i’m sure you’d feel welcome as it’s a pretty relaxed place and not rowdy at all.

Thank you all for helping me out !

I actually put Comstock and Frontier among my top choices, but could anyone give me your opinion about living at Middlebrook, is it okay for a science student living there ?

@theclick: Middlebrook usually houses the students pursuing some type of degree in the Arts program and tends to have some techie/gaming kids among the dorm. I slept over there plenty and it is mostly quiet, I think it’s a chill environment; I put it as my 3rd or 4th choice behind Frontier and Centennial.
