Are there trashcans? And more specifically in the apartments what might be in the kitchen?

there are trashcans. kitchens have fridge, stove, maybe a dishwasher, and maybe a disposal. Most have limited outlets, bring several outlet strips. Also those hooks that hang with the removable stuff are handy in the kitchen for hanging dishtowels.
Bring paper towels and spray cleaner; the rooms are "cleaned" but just in the general sense.

Thanks KK---I have a habit of calling it a curtain when I really mean liner or vinyl "curtain". I'm furnishing stuff for a ♂ domain, so I don't get to "do curtains" ! ;)

Thanks rlm---I'll definitely get plastic rings

rlm---do you mean those 3M hooks (Command?) --- I was wondering if they are allowed.

janejersey - no problem; I was a bit unclear on the distinction myself until I was buying a shower liner for myself. :)

I've had good experience with 3M hooks - when placed on plastic-y doors, there's no problem at all getting them off. In general, there are all sorts of rules about what you can and can't put on walls, but the reality is a lot of buildings have old paint jobs, and you can put anything on the walls that doesn't make them look that much worse than they already do, which in some cases is most anything within reason.

Some of the older buildings do not have grounded outlets. I know this is true of Cathedral Mansions, but I'm sure it also is of some other buildings, so keep that in mind in your power strip buying.
